I set up a separate eBay store to sell X-Rated materials (old 8mm nudie loops). These films cannot be sold outside of the adults-only section.
Just recently, eBay sent me the mandatory join Managed Payments invite.I called eBay and got very confusing advice. The Customer Rep said that managed payments are permitted for my accountant because the account was set up specifically for adults-only sales.
I pressed them to explain how that was possible, but the rep just kept insisting that all I need to do is complete the managed payments registration process, and my sales could continue as always.
Does anyone else sell in the adult categories (or any other “restricted” categories like coins)? Has this been your experience? -

I had a seller ID that was for selling coins only that was finally transitioned to Managed Payments. Once it was clear that the coins would not be taken down, I stopped using that seller ID and listed coins in one of my other stores (transitioned to MP earlier) without any problems.
Although my experience is that coins can be mixed in with other inventory, I don’t have any adult items so can’t comment on that. There may be some kind of special arrangement that requires the specific adult item dedicated account.

Coins had been excluded, they no longer are. Adult stuff had been excluded, it no longer is. Sign up for Managed Payments and start listing. There’s nothing to stop you at this point. As far as I know, you don’t have to have a separate store to do it…I think what the Rep is trying to tell you is that, since you set the account up for Adult stuff, and since Adult is no longer excluded from MPs, just go ahead, sign up and start listing.

Thanks for the advice. I’ll still keep the separate store, I like having a “back room” as not to offend delicate sensibilities.

I agree, as a business strategy if you have enough inventory to justify another store, it is probably a good idea. And especially if the stuff is vintage and more kitschy than it is hardcore…you could “brand” your store to emphasize that aspect….

I look at it as my off-brand outlet store. It’s in the bad pat of town.

Well that puts an end to that. eBay is shutting down the adults only categories.

Do you have a link where eBay has announced this?

I got an email sent to the account that sells adult items (I did not get an email on my vanilla account).
Here is a link to the updated policies

This could be due to managed payments and the company that is running it. Some of the categories that eBay sells in were not allowed by Ayden initially, but they did get through coins and bills and some other categories.
However, it could also be to prevent those photos from being displayed to a minor. I occasionally see nude photos come up in a search. Usually it is because I have a search term that has a double meaning. Perhaps they decided to get out of the business because of the liability. I thought that the adult only sections were supposed to be blanked out, but I haven’t seen it that way for some time.

The reason I liked selling adult stuff on eBay was the Adult section was pretty much locked off from the rest of the site. You have to click through a couple of consent pages in order to see anything. I doubt it’s about liability, more about branding and the managed payment program.

I’m going to be watching for a new YouTube video from The Million Dollar Peddlers….one of these guys sells a lot of vintage adult magazines, photos etc, and he was recently assured by ebay that he could continue selling his stuff in Managed Payments….I imagine he is not feeling real happy right now……hopefully he’ll be able to shed some light on just how far ebay is going with this….some of the rules are not very clear on what IS permitted….debitendcredits, you have my sympathy….hope you can still get your stuff sold…..I’m guessing someone is going to jump in to fill the gap ebay has created…..
