Had a pair of andirons returned for reason of wrong size through managed returns. Buyer stated she really loved them but she measured wrong and they didn’t fit fireplace.Received back damaged.Ebay suggested to contact buyer and ask if they were insured or if they knew about the damage. Buyer stated didn’t know how they were damaged, maybe she did received them damaged , but only took one out and it was the wrong size, she didnt look to see if they were damaged, but they could have been. That statement seemed odd to me. Called ebay back they suggested asking for return appeal.I hadn’t refunded yet. This happened to me once before, and ebay did not take the refund out of my paypal, I think in that case they did not refund at all. After a long call, finally got the rep to ask supervisor to approve an appeal and they did not take refund out of my paypal , but they did refund buyer. So you can ask for an appeal if the item is not returned in original condition. It takes a little while, but it is worth it. Thought this may help anyone else this has happened to

You did much better than I did– I previously posted about a return on crystal glasses that were returned because they were smaller than needed for the whatever the buyer needed them for. One was chipped and one had the sticker removed. After two seperate trips through eBay including escalating to a supervisor on both calls I was shot down. I got the ding on the metrics removed because I opened a case on it. And we just got USPS to reimburse us but what a pain.
Congratulations on a great resolution!

I think ebay may need to rethink the return policy for some categories. Your glasses that were returned with one chipped is an example of either a switch (or they removed the label) or on some items buyers don’t or can’t pack for return as well as us sellers. I will say It was not an easy call the second time. I was transferred to the rudest rep I have ever talked to, and I have sold on ebay since 2000. He just kept saying explain why you think your buyer would do this to you, she has no reason to damage this. When I asked if he was saying I was going to have to take the loss , he said yes then I asked to talk to a supervisor, he said why do you want to do that, then he finally put me on hold and came back with they would pay the refund and not take it out of my paypal. I have started charging a 10 % restocking fee. If you sell glass you may consider that also. Like I said, with what I sell I have only had a few returns, and only one went smoothly (they were brass candlesticks that were too small). Just hate to see such beautiful items damaged

Yes, I was surprised to at how just angry this guy seemed. He actually yelled at me.Not the normal customer service from ebay. Told my husband maybe he was extra holiday help. I normally would have tried again or waited until Monday, but I had my kids coming home for the weekend and I just wanted to get it settled, either way.Thing was I knew I could do a refund appeal , ebay told me last time that is what I should ask to do.They do not want sellers to be out of money for damaged items. Hopefully my husband can try to fix them and I can relist as repaired, or since I am not out of any money I’m thinking of just keeping them. Listening to you Ryanne talk about customers asking for free shipping. I have had more ask for free shipping the last couple weeks.Maybe they think since it’s the holidays I’m willing to deal. Which I am , but I’m not going to loose money either.
