Some years ago, I realized ebay had done away with the “Stores Team”, the team responsible for the layout and design of ebay stores. I considered it a move in the wrong direction, but ebay, like Amazon, seemed determined to view sellers as merely suppliers of inventory, and nothing more. So I was very happy to hear that ebay once again has a group focused on Stores. (Interestingly, it seems it is the VP for Buyer Experience, not Seller Experience, who is maybe in charge of it.) To see some mock-ups of POSSIBLE design changes (in smartphone format, not PC), go to this ebay video, at about 28:00. Not that I had anything to do with it , but I do see some things I’ve advocated , including the use of video , and permitting links to our business social media pages….
I remain cautiously optimistic that the new management at ebay realizes that the last ten years or so have been a screw-up, and the execs do seem to realize that there are a LOT of things that need fixing. (Of course, it will take time, but hopefully not too much time….)

I will be pleasantly surprised if eBay can pull off a big update like this.

Jay, My hope (admittedly, not my expectation LOL) is that, this time next year, ebay will be quite a different place. New management has been willing to say (not in these exact words) what many sellers have been saying for years: eBay under the former CEO wasted years going in the wrong direction. So these guys KNOW they have to play catch-up, they need to correct things that should have been corrected YEARS ago. But I think they also see that ebay still has tremendous potential. I agree with that. eBay could be SO MUCH more than it is, IF it plays to its strengths. I don’t think Wenig ever really understood ebay’s strength He gave lip service to the things that are “uniquely ebay”, but he wanted ebay to be a major Amazon competitor. These guys realize ebay is not really an Amazon competitor. WalMart, Target, they are. But ebay is ebay, and needs to focus on the sellers and the stuff that make ebay ebay. I think if they do that, it will be better for all of us. And I think they finally have people at the top who get that.

Its really the weakness of a publicly traded company. The eBay board seems very impatient and doesn’t let eBay be eBay. Also doesnt help that eBay has activist investors that keep focusing on squeezing cash out of the business.
Meanwhile we plebs keep selling our little trinkets in the villages 🙂

I’ll believe it when I see it. At the start of the pandemic or maybe it was when the post office took the huge hit to their sorting equipment, ebay relaxed its shipping standards. But a week or so ago they said that they were going back to monitoring & dinging accounts for late shipments again and stressed that sellers are responsible for items that arrive late even if the item was shipped on time. The policy has never made any sense and it tells me that eBay isn’t willing to pivot towards helping sellers as much as we’d like to hope.

There’s an automated send-offer feature just turned up on eBay UK, for business sellers only. The seller sends out an offer to an interested buyer (watcher); if the buyer doesn’t bite, the auto-send feature checks 24 hours after the offer was sent out for other watchers, and sends them the same offer, and so on until either the item sells or the sun becomes a red giant, whichever is sooner.

Antique Frog, Yep, we have that here in the US as well.

Ah, but do you have the “auto-bazaar” feature, where the store invites you in for a cup of mint tea and two hours of hard selling? 🙂

No, but I sure wish we did! LOL
