Hey Scavengers. We’ve been doing almost zero eBay work this week. No photographing. No listing. All we’ve done is answer questions on the eBay mobile app and accept offers. Just in the first six days of our trip, we’ve sold 24 items.
Since we can’t ship for another three weeks, we’re accepting a lot of offers. Every single buyer has been cool about getting their item when we come back. Some buyers even ask where we’re traveling and wish us luck. Even I’m surprised we haven’t had a buyer want a refund yet. Usually it’s about 1 in 10 so we’re definitely ahead of the curve.
We describe our process on vacation here and here. I believe buyers will wait because we give them good deals on items they can’t find other places. People aren’t buying 99-cent iPhone cases from us. They’re buying vintage napkin ring holders. One-of-a-kind stuff. I know this won’t work for every buyer, but this is evidence to us that maintaining a large diverse inventory works for our lifestyle.
Anyway, our job ends on Friday and then we get to enjoy ourselves for two weeks. We’re already looking up estate sales and auctions in the places we’re traveling. We have big bags for the plane and can even ship stuff home if we find real treasures.
Anyone else have experience selling while traveling? Anyone have someone ship for them while they’re away?
