Hi Everyone,
I’m LL from Sydney, Australia. Just joined the forum but have been listening along to SL for years. I have always been in love with Flea Markets, Garage sales, Jumble Sales and Thrift Stores (OP shops here). My Grandfather used to do it too, looking for gems and rescuing and reusing stuff. My father loves it too, and my mother would always take me to Jumble sales at the local church hall. So I can say I have really been at it my whole life.
Have really only got in to the selling aspect of in it the last 5 years, and have been doing it as a hobby. Mostly selling my own stuff on ebay.
Having recently been made redundant from my Job of the past 20 years, I am thinking for stepping things up a notch. I’m list! list! listing all my stuff first up to clear out at home. But the call of the hunt is there. Am trying not to bring in more stuff until I sell (or at least list)all my old goodies first.
Thought I would jump on the Forum, join some chats and learn a bit more from you all. Thanks for letting me join Jay and Ryanne, and thanks for everything you do- You Rock!
Cheers, LL (currently have 70 items listed)

Thanks for checking in. Sorry to here about your redundancy. 20 years of working fo them! Not much loyalty these days.
We’d love to hear more about what scavenging is like in Australia and who you sell to. Assume the US isnt a big market because of shipping?

Hi LL, welcome to the wonderful world of reselling. My initials are LL too. We’ve been reselling for about 5 years and it really is an adventure. Looking forward to hearing about how things compare to Oz reselling.

Hi Jay and LL,
Thanks for replying. It’s really cool to now be part of the community. I have been looking for a part time job, but due to covid it’s really drying up here.
I was a bit cheeky and went scavenging this morning. In the area where I live, they have “Council Cleanup”, where everyone dumps their Hard goods on the gutter and the local council comes and picks it up. Depends what council you are in, but mine is once a fortnight. Pretty handy for a scavenger…….
So this morning I picked some books and a candle holder. There was a fridge up the road and thought about grabbing the inside trays to clean and sell as parts but they were pretty grotty. I saw these amazing big decorative fans that were hand painted, one had a peacock on it. Because I was walking I thought I would leave it an come back and pick them up on the way back. Textbook Error!!! Sure enough they were gone. I can hear Ryanne’s word’s in my head “Hang onto your cart” (I know it’s something like that)
Anyway over the weekend I sold some bundles of Baby clothes my Jnr has grown out of. So just gotta print some labels and get out to the mail box later today. Then I gotta list some of my old shoes later. Just keep Listing hey 🙂 On and will listen to the podcast while I do that.

Oh and Hey, thought you might be interested in a few fun facts I have found with selling in Aust on Ebay. Because most of the things I am selling are either Chintzy, knick knacks, unusual books , vintage clothes, my old shoes or Australiania, it usually goes to remote, regional Australia.
However, the 2 Bags of baby clothing I sold has both gone to Melbourne central City suburbs. Melbourne is one of our Southern cities and they are currently in stage 4 really strict lockdown. So most of the shops are shut and there is even a 8 pm curfew. It’s interesting, how things have changed during these crazy times.
