i’m wanting to stock up on some more peanuts and get the starch kind that dissolve, not the terrible polystyrene ones i have now. anyone else buy these online?
i feel like ebay does not have a good selection/price.
i know they’re more expensive, but i’m trying to not pay double.
thanks!-

Uline has the starch ones which I think are the ones that dissolve.
https://www.uline.com/BL_2004/Uline-UPSable-Peanuts 7 CF at $21
Staples but they about double the cost 7 CF at $40https://www.uline.com/BL_2001/Biodegradable-Peanuts This is the link to the Biodegrable, best pricing and offering large quantities.
These Uline ones have a separate for the biodegradeable ones that melt in water at the largest CF volume for the lowest price.
* 20 CF bags for $27 ea. But they also have volume discount breaks going up to 20 bags as low as $17 ea or $340.
* And as a bonus since you guys have the warehouse, you can call them for special pricing on 40+ bags. But as always with Uline that does not include freight. But since these are large bags but light in weight they will go by freight-truck and 40 bags won’t be much more than 20 bags hopefully since with trucks just like DIM weights you are buying the space on the truck not paying much for the weight.
Since Uline stopped offering local pick-up several years ago, I have not bought anything from them. I used to buy bubble wrap and the shipping was $30 for a $27 roll of BW. AND GUESS WHAT!!! They are only 5 miles up the road from me. So I dumped them as a supplier. I call once a year but nope, no local pick-up.
The reason was that locals coming into the loading dock area posed a safety hazard to the truckers.Hopes this helps you out some what. Maybe they are still too high for you. We don’t use peanuts. Every customer we had in the printing business [10 million dollar company] all told us no peanuts. Even non-static ones. They all wanted “dunnage” 50 lb. weight brown kraft paper and that is what we also now use in our small online businesses.

I bought 30 CF of something called “Greenfill” at £32 (approx 40 dollars). They’re green, soluble, and stink of vinegar. Labelled as “Ecofill” on the website. If it’s the same as this stuff it’s made from steam-blown starch, and rodents won’t nest in it. Not surprised- I wouldn’t nest in it either.

I usually get the regular ones from suppyhut (great service, no problems) but now that I see that the starch ones are only like $4 for the same amount, I think my next purchase will be the eco-friendly ones also. Thanks for starting this thread Ryanne!

I ordered a small bag of the starch peanuts to experiment with. Less than $12 shipped for 30 gallons? That’s worth the test.
I typically get plenty of bubble wrap from work in receiving, but it has been drying up. fewer and fewer vendors are using bubble wrap.

http://www.starchpeanutsbaltimore.com/ delivers and allows local pick up. Although it is probably a few hours from you, it might be worth the trip if you get a truckload. They seem to have decent prices. I haven’t purchased yet, but plan on making my first trip next week.
Until recently, I’ve been able to get starch peanuts from local stores that are willing to save for me after unpacking their shipments. As other sellers have realized they can do the same, my supply has been dwindling. I think it is always worth asking local small business if they are willing to save packing material for you. Many don’t like the waste and are happy to pass along for reuse.

Here’s an idea for all of you that use peanuts. Why not form a buying collective. All of you guys go in together, have Ryanne buy a truck load and bring them into her warehouse and then split them up and you guys pay here to ship 7-10 CF bags to the rest of you on an as need basis or all at once.
That way all of you get the lowest price, free shiiping because you cause bought the largest quantitiy and then Ryane distributes everybody’s separate orders out to the other SL members who pre-paid and bought in. The other members just have to pay Ryane for the separate shipping.
You can maybe even pay her through the donations link or she sends you an invoice from PayPal.
I think a 7 – 10 CF bag will go through regular shipping. I get good prices of rolls of bubble wrap and those rolls come two rolls placed inside of a super large black contractor’s bag. [bigger than a 55 gallon drum size] and just taped off on the top and the label slapped on the side. So take the 7-10 CF regular clear bag, drop in another bag and ship out to everyone who wants to split.
All of this based on the fact that Ryanne has a place in her “Estate” to receive a truckload in for a short period until it gets dropped shipped out to the other members.
Just trying to think outside the box. BTW.. this technique could apply to other products also.
In our case we have a Fed EIN Number since we are a corporation which allows us to buy wholesale in many cases.
Something to ponder …

Just a little tip – today I needed packing peanuts so I went to Office Depot. They had a 5 cubic feet pag for $33. I looked them up on their website to see if there were any coupons and the listed price online was $14! The store honored that price. The cashier said that happens often, especially with printer ink. So if you’re ever at Office Depot, check online! FYI these are labeled “plant based, compostable”.

This is a good price and slightly cheaper than where I buy on eBay.
supplyhut ebay $23.05 for 8 cu = $2.88 per cu
office depot special $13.99 for 5 cu = $2.78 per cu
If anyone has cheaper prices (via nationwide stores or the internet) you should post them so we can all go greener for cheaper!
