Hello. I have a buyer who messaged me and said the Roku I sent him did not work and could I troubleshoot it with him. I told him that everything worked when I sent it and the only thing I could offer him was a refund after he returns it but that it was not free shipping on returns. He started the refund and messaged me after he shipped it saying his printer was broken and he needed to return it without tracking and the Post Office said it would take a week from Texas to California. It is almost a week so I called eBay for advice but they have this message saying to go to this link:
https://www.ebay.com/sellerhelp
PayPal has a hold on his payment so it looks like I will most likely have to contest this with eBay at the above link and PayPal.
Any advice? He has really good feedback but all the signs are there that he is playing games. Should I wait longer or just get this rolling?

If you get the item back, and there is no issue with it, then refund his money.
If you never get the item back, then don’t refund his money. By not getting tracking, he has no way to prove he sent anything back. PayPal will lift the hold on your money after a certain amount of time (not sure how long, but maybe a month).
Trying to get the hold lifted early isn’t going to help. eBay is giving buyers a longer time to return items because the USPS is running slow.

Yeah, I smell bullshit. Unless he just put stamps on it which it does not sound like he did, tracking is free for First Class Package or Retail Ground at the post office. But do what Sharyn says and wait it out.

Thanks very much. Darn, I forgot to add… he gave me a negative feedback to boot – just after my one and only for the past year and a half dropped off. Should I go after that as well? I think eBay might consider it given that I never received the package and he never gave me tracking but I am interested to hear from someone with more experience. They could also just say, “You’re out of luck.” Thanks.

I don’t know, haven’t had to deal with a negative in a very long time. With eBay not taking calls our old ways of doing things have changed.

@temudgin, eBay is taking calls again now. I don’t know how long this has been so but I talked to a rep yesterday, just from using the contact button in eBay help. I chatted a bit and he said they had to do some behind the scenes work to get calls forwarded to the next available remote rep but he said it is working fine now and he hopes they will continue with it. I do have an anchor store, don’t know if that makes a difference, but if so they had to do some special programming for the help page to show it just to anchor store sellers. Maybe someone here that is not anchor can look to see if the phone option is available.
In addition to the minor issue I called about, he also took off a “demerit” I got for eBay having to step in to handle a return I had not processed on time due to being shorthanded with the coronavirus situation.

It doesn’t hurt to try. You can contact customer service through email or eBay for Business on Facebook and state your case. It might depend on what the feedback said.
