We were in the market for a new baby carseat now that our youngest is getting ready to graduate from the carrier seat. I had found one on clearance at walmart with excellent reviews and marked down to $110 from $150. Before I purchased it, I looked on online and on ebay. I found the same thing on ebay for $85 + $8 shipping. The seller literally took the photos in a Wal-mart, so they also bought it at Walmart to resell….possibly.
So shipping is quick and I get the delivery notice while at work. I get home and go to bring the box in when I notice that “Hey, this is NOT the right car seat!”. I immediately take photos and send it to the seller. Just then my wife walks by and says “That one looks way nicer than the one you ordered.”. Sure enough, I looked this one up and it is not only way nicer, but costs $250!
Just for giggles I messaged the seller this message: “Let me know how you want to proceed. I’m fine with just keeping this one if you want.”No way they’re gonna let me keep this one, and they likely have another ticked off customer who also got the wrong one.
I get this message in reply:
Hi,
Thank you again for shopping with us. We are happy you got your seat, our team sent you the chicco as we failed managing Graco Baby Nautilus 65 3-in-1 Harness Booster an on time shipping. Please be advised the chicco brand is more market expensive than the Graco brand and the chicco is brand new and sealed in a box also. Just take the chicco as our gift and please accept our sincere apologies for this. So enjoy chicco safety time and thank you for your consideration. The seat is cool rite? You made a choice. Would you mind leave us feedback? we need good feedback from great buyer like you.
Sincerely.So….they purposefully sent me a different item without ever contacting me. They are a fairly new seller, and they did originally have a quantity on the listing. They also appear to have a language barrier. I think they may have been a victim of the sell similar quantity bug.
Anyways, as the customer I ended up happy but a weird way to go about it.

Sure the heck is. Hey an idea. Sell the $250 one, re-buy the $85 one and smile all the way to the bank. And BTW, give them a good feedback in return for the $165 profit they gave you.
Strange business model – SOP if you ask me. If they do that a lot, we can take bets as to how long they can stay in business. 🙂

Search “Confessions of a Nespresso money mule” (it’s a talk at Def Con) for an explanation as to why sometimes you get a great deal on eBay.

I have upgraded items before when I had an inadvertent stock-out situation, but I message them when I send it. Great customer service.

So I dug a little deeper and I saw this feedback from another buyer in their feedback profile:
I didn’t get the same car seat as what I ordered it but I got a much better one!
(Private listing)Yes, all of the sellers feedbacks are “private listings”.
I feel dirty… I’m going to go ahead and request a return.

So I just requested the return, they don’t accept returns but I opened an INAD so what will likely happen is that I get a refund and keep the item.
The item shipped from PA and the name and address on the return for the seller is someone in California. Drop shipped and likely a fake name. Oh man this pisses me off so much. I don’t like being an unwitting pawn in a scam. -

I sent them a message explaining why I opened a return.
And as expected, they’ve already refunded me and closed the return. Man that was fast!
I’ll be calling ebay once I’m off work to report this seller. Will it do much good? Probably not.
I have to do something though. -

I’m sorry to hear that.
I suspect the “broken English” is faked.

@Retro:
Yes it sounds strange. Pretty fishy. But I don’t really understand the scam part. Can you explain why you think it was a scam and you were a pawn in it? Seller drop shipping with a stolen credit card or what?-
