I have a mailbox that I am researching. It is a rural mailbox like the one listed below (see link). What I don’t understand is HOW they are able to send a 4 lb mailbox that is 19″ long for FREE when the cost of the box is $15.79?
Your thoughts?

Here’s my guess. They are drop shipping from Home Depot and Walmart. I looked at some of their other items and they are priced $5 to $10 or more than Home Depot and Walmart.
They both have free shipping for orders over a certain amount so they fulfill a few orders and they’ve met the free shipping requirement.-

I’d say the same thing. They’ve hacked a system that gives them free shipping.
Its like someone with an Amazon Prime account using it to sell stuff to other people and getting Amazon to ship for free. Amazon finds out and shuts that account down.
But this listing says they’ve sold 431 of these mailboxes this way.
If this is the same one, its cheaper at Home Depot:

Wow, I would have never thought that you could hack things that way. But for such a low profit margin why would you bother? There are several other ebay sellers with an even lower cost for same mailbox. Crazy!

We talk about these sellers sometimes. They have no inventory, but instead simply list items they find on other stores. Your seller has 2500 items listed:
https://www.ebay.com/sch/ship-4-free/m.html?_nkw=&_armrs=1&_ipg=&_from=
All just puled from Home Depot and other online stores. When you buy, he just buys it at Homedepot.com and ships to your address. He’ll may make $1 on each sale, so its all about volume.
Where these guys get stuck is when they get returns on eBay. Then they have to return money and are stuck with used items. On such a low margin business, several $20 returns could be painful.

Well I have zero interest in that game. I prefer what we do, it is honest and straight forward.

I think you’re right on the drop shipping.
I read some of the negative feedbacks. They tend to tell the story.

I picture a huge staff of people creating listings according to some formula I think this will show up with Home Depot labels on it. This must work because I’ve seen a bunch of ebay accounts using Amazon.

What this guy appears to be doing is an ebay policy violation:
“Drop shipping, where you fulfill orders directly from a wholesale supplier, is allowed on eBay. Remember though, if you use drop shipping, you’re still responsible for the safe delivery of the item within the time frame you stated in your listing, and the buyer’s overall satisfaction with their purchase.
“However, listing an item on eBay and then purchasing the item from another retailer or marketplace that ships directly to your customer is not allowed on eBay. In such cases, we may remove your listings from search, display them lower in search results, or remove them completely from the site. We may also limit, restrict or suspend your ability to buy, sell, or use site features on eBay, and you could lose any special status and/or discounts associated with your account.”
