Just noticed that eBay is adding a couple of lines to descriptions on new listings.
I am an old school full description guy, and always put a lot of info in about the item. I know, no one else does, and buyers seem to never read it.
And last year there started to be the little eBay note that said Now you’re talking! Buyers love details,
Yesterday, noticed that when I went to add a description, eBay had already imported my entire title AND added their recommended shipping.
So, a hat listing that I just started has the full title and says “Shipped with USPS First Class Package.”
For years I have copied the title and pasted it into the description to start. And have never mentioned the shipping method unless I say “ships via secure and economical media mail” to spin.
Last night was listing a mug and it added the title in full and:
Item is Used. Shipped with USPS Priority Mail.
( top of the screen now says “Good start on your description– Keep it going! )
Note in both cases I had NOT gotten to the freight or even pricing area!
Because the eBay is confused about business policies, always correct and launch only from the computer, using the app for photos, details and description. So, wondering out loud, if I change the business policy or other details, will they update the description? In fact, will any further adjustment change the description?
Not sure anyone else will see this but I find it odd. Was there an announcement?

I just listed a bunch of stuff today, and I didn’t see any of that. However, I always start from an existing listing and modify it.
When I first started, I used the simpler method of creating a listing. Sorry, I don’t remember what it was called. Later, I switched to the method that allows you to modify more parameters. I wonder if you are using the simpler listing screen.

I’ve been noticing the same when listing through the app in the last few days. Terribly annoying…haha

I haven’t seen this either. I list from my computer using sell similar or create a new listing

This happened to me once or twice in the past week, but only when I started a new listing on the app from scratch (like scanning a CD or book barcode to list).
I opened one of those listings on my desktop and changing the business policies (or condition, etc.) on the listing didn’t change the automatic description info. Fortunately, we can delete/alter the auto description. I just deleted it all and wrote my own as usual.
I generally stick with the “sell similar” option, and that doesn’t have the automatic info added (yet?).

Yeah, lots of changes with the latest app upgrades. I think they are trying to make it more streamlined and compete by adding suggested pre-filled choices (eg. auction it!) and text. Unfortunately, it doesn’t match my saved preferences and routine practices. Also if you click to agreed to promoted, they fill in a very high percentage even if you’ve already selected something else on the desktop. You can’t choose or retain your percentage in the app. Overall, not very seller friendly. Sure it’s faster, if you want to let Ebay choose everything for you.
I’m going to have to flip my process and start the draft with pictures in the app and continue to the desktop to launch. Not sure if I can still use sell similar if starting in the app. 🙁

I always start a new listing by going into an existing listing and “sell similar”. A few items I started after the app update did this same thing and erased my “template”. After a couple of items, that stopped happening and has not happened since.

Good input, thanks.
I think this all goes back to a response from eBay at the event last year – T-Satt asked about the app and business policies, and if I recall the eBay rep didn’t think app users used business policies.
So the app direction must be to remove as many barriers for new sellers – so, guessing they’ve seen buyer complaints about info in listings?
Last time there were major app changes, remember looking on the eBay community, and everyone was complaining about having to override fields that were automatically populated. ( all opposite of what I thought, people freaking out about GTC and accept bids.)
The app started great years back and was a great sellers tool. Still works great to buy. But since listing has continually become more of a hassle, guess it’s time to go back to the old days of using the computer to start, add pictures with the app, then go back to the computer to list.
Going to miss scanning the UPC to start a listing or do sell similar, depends on the amount of editing required.
Does MisterLister still work? Hah I know it changed to turbo lister LOL

Update, just spent some time listing and realized – duh – that having the title transfer into the description, which has been a manual process, is now done – a good thing.
So stop whining and adapt!
Interestingly, started a listing on the computer , did everything and then added pics – launched the item from the phone and it did Not add a new business policy. Pet peeve.
Ok, Has Marie Kondo done a how to list on eBay method.

Yes, I have noticed it and I hate it. Everyone has their way of doing things/opinions and I personally will not adapt. I delete it and list like I normally do.

So, just started a sell similar listing for a re-issue of a vintage toy (gi joe) and….
eBay added a random picture that is TERRIBLE
I’m laughing so hard I can’t pretend I’m not aghast.
cant imagine what corporate think tank at eBay comes up with this stuff!
I will post the picture later,

eBay added a photo that isn’t yours to the listing?

When I list a recent book, sometimes eBay will insert a photo of the front cover. This is really nice for books that are new or like new.
I haven’t really seen a photo pop up for something other than a book, but I don’t list that many new in the box items.
I’ll be interested in the photo that eBay added for the GI Joe.

Just seems weird eBay would add a random photo to a listing. What happens if the photo isnt representative of the condition of that item?
-

I think that if you add other photos, then the eBay photo goes away. So, they assume that if you add photos then your item must be used.
I think that this is part of their catalog. If you have an item that is NIB and is a relatively new item, then they have a stock photo that can represent all the ones for sale that are the same item.

sorry for the multiple attempts to post the pic! I’llget it eventually.
This is a perfectly un representative pic, oddly it is NOT in the original listing which I “Sold Similar”
And, yes, like th book / CD / DVD stock photo, it disappears if you add another pic.
Still – what the heck1

buytikiselltiki – Looks like you are trying to fix your broken link. If you go to your post on imgur, there should be a “copy” button on the right hand side with the link. If you press copy, it saves the link to your clipboard. Then you can just paste here.
