Needs some help, thought I would cross post this and see if anyone knows anything. I’ve come across what I believe is a PRE 1971 vintage Levi denim jacket.
It has the Big E on the tiny label. But I am starting to suspect that it may have been a like Hippy Jacket as it has two weird embroideries. Can anyone identify what these embroideries are the one on the back looks like a man and like something I’ve seen before but I cant place what. Any help with identification of the embroideries or estimation of value would be a big help. -

Ha-ha. I think you’re right on with the hippie thing. The guy on the back looks like the logo for Zig Zag rolling papers. The front looks like a rainbow dove, not sure if there is a special significance to it. Reminds me of when I was a little kid in the 70s, I had a babysitter who used to cover her jeans with embroidery similar to this. I’m sure this is someone’s handiwork. Question is does that add or detract from the value???

PDX_Cindy has it right. The “Zig Zag Man”, logo for the Zig Zag Rolling Paper Co. and Milton Glaser’s “Peace Dove” on the front. Iconic images from the late 60’s, early 70’s.

I cant find anything like this oneon ebay.
I am starting to think it might be reproduction though because it has 3 faint numbers on the back of the buttons and it has only one copyright 4 on the little red tab.
Comps on levis jackets seem to be all over the board even the repos have a range of 100-900, and the non repos have a range of 100-3000. I am really not sure what to do, or how to list this I dont want to say its vintage if it turns out to be a repo…. maybe Ill list it with NO claims… not sure…. open to suggestions…

It sure looks like a pre 1971 Type 3 “Trucker” jacket to me. As far as I know even the reproductions dont have the capital E on the red tab. I’d sell it at a premium price point as vintage with almost no reservations in doing so.
Here’s a link to the best guide I know of to verify and date Levi’s denim jackets.

If I’m ever in doubt I do not make any claims and let the keywords and description speak for themselves.
I recently listed a Nike Varsity Leather & wool coat that I thought was true vintage when I got it.
I had my profit goggles on for sure. Turns out it is a remake and had some small holes in the wool sections. Doh! I’ll still make decent money for it, but not the $200+ I was hoping to get.

According to that guide:”If it has a three-digit stamp on the inside of a button, e.g. “555”, the jacket is an LVC reproduction and should be sold as such. These are still nice jackets, but they’re no collector’s pieces.”
mine has 524 stamped on the buttons….faintly on the back of each one…so I am guessing this means it is not vintage?

Vintage is anything over 25 years old, so anything from 1999 or before can be sold as vintage. It’s the capital E on the red tab that will be your primary marketing point on this particular jacket. I’m certainly not an expert, just that I would sell it as vintage as I see nothing on the jacket that indicates to me that it isn’t at least 25 years old. But I’ve been known to be a bit reckless at times, so take my advise for what it’s worth.
