I seem to remember Jay and Ryanne describing how they enter a bogus tracking number (like maybe it had the date and some letters in it) to satisfy the tracking requirement for on-time shipping on local pickup items.) Also, how do you exchange your address info since eBay doesn’t want that information shared in emails? I’ve done this a few times before, but the last one was over a year ago. Thanks!

If you have local pickup as the only option, I thought that there isn’t any time period that you have to meet. This might be different if it is an option along with other shipping options. Perhaps someone else can give you a better answer.
I can answer your second question, though. Once the buyer pays for the item, you can exchange contact information. I’ve done it many times with no problem. eBay doesn’t want you to give contact information before the buyer has paid because then you might try to sell it without paying fees.

Here is an email I just sent to a 0 feedback buyer who made a substantial $200 offer on an old milk can.
I sent the email last night. It is not a form letter, each situation a bit different. In the end, the buyer opted for me to ship, which will be about $100 for this big heavy can. Maybe helpful:Hello and thank you for your offer!
I would required full payment by Paypal before arrangements are made by you for pickup.
My part of this transaction is accepting payment, continue to properly store the can,
and be reasonably available for pickup, due to work schedules.
I can not be involved in the moving or packing of the can, even if you choose to use a third party service. Please do not send any contact information until payment is made, eBay frowns greatly on this!
Please let me know if you want to proceed, and I will happily accept your payment.
As you know, this is a RARE can and $200 is a GREAT price, congrats! My apologies for so much explanation. I see that you have 0 feed backs, and I don’t want any surprises for you, only success!
My feeling is that you may have some experience in buying, and quite possibly selling old things! Most Sincerely,
and Sincerely at your service,
Tom-

This form letter is great.
We require payment through Paypal before we arrange pick up. This way we have the money, so there’s no stress if the buyer takes a log time to pick up. We’ve had buyers wait six weeks before they finally get their item (usually furniture).
As Ryanne said, since its local pickup on eBay, no tracking is needed.

no we don’t enter a bogus tracking number or any tracking number, you don’t need to on a Local Pick up item. you can exchange addresses and phone numbers once the person has paid without issue.

I had a prospective buyer contact me directly via my email address, which apparently is displayed on the eBay listing. That was okay by me, since I was puzzling out how to give him the address where the item was stored, without having a repeat of the stroppy email I got from eBay last time I put an address in a message. I know my address and ‘phone number are displayed on the listing, but I was unaware that the email was.

Your address is shown directly on the eBay listing? Or after the sale is made?

Directly on the listing (just signed out, had a look at a listing and checked that was the case). This is because I’m registered as a business seller- the main effect is that there are certain extra safeguards for the customer if the seller is a business. That’s as far as the regulation goes- no licences or registration elsewhere.

Should’ve pointed out that that’s UK eBay. Not sure what the equivalent US category is- “professional”?

Hi Antique Frog, Here in the US, we don’t have equivalent categories – we are all just the same ebay and there is no professional vs. hobby delineation (other than owning a store vs. not)… Also, one can always get your direct email address from Paypal after the sale…

I once set up some listings for my sister, who works at a sign company. I did pick a business designation, but I can’t remember all the details. The format for listing was a bit different. I can’t remember if their address was on the listing, and she doesn’t have it set up any more, so I can’t check.
