Funny. I took my daughter for a UVA visit just this past weekend. She loved the campus! Not sure if she is going to apply, though.
I have some typical sport team caps and shirts, and they don’t sell so fast.

I was in Ft Collins (home of University of Northern Colorado) a few weeks back for a Decemberists concert and the only UNC hats I saw in the crowd were vintage/yellowing/destroyed hats likely from the 1980s. It was a bit of hipster crowd, but still, no one really wearing anything from the last decade. I am not touching any team stuff that does not look old and funky anymore.

I would say about 10% of my sales are sports fan wear. Most of it is vintage (1990’s or older) but the odd modern jersey does OK if it is unique and genuine (lots of Chinese fakes sold on eBay).
I tend to stay away from NCAA merchandise – almost anyone can make it (they hand out licenses to anyone, especially state owned schools that anyone can make) and it is still very cheap to buy new because of this.
My best sales have always been authentic minor league (baseball and hockey) jerseys, or foreign (European) hockey jerseys – especially Russian ones. I’ve sold some for well over $200 if very rare. These rare jerseys are usually cheap, as most thrift stores can recognize a major league team jersey, but not most minor league teams. Defunct teams also do well from the past – as long as the team wear is from the era the team existed and not a reproduction. Some teams like the Hartford Whalers have more stuff made today then when they existed.
College stuff that is great though is vintage letterman or leather jackets – the leather ones, even in poor condition tend to sell well if they are vintage (pre 1980 in my experience).

So another lesson learned…NCAA stuff is readily available in mass….more of the Amazon model rather than ebay.
Good thing I spent only a $1 for the shirt. If nothing else, I’ll clean my lawn mower with it! LOL
However, I did pull 2 UGA Dawgs license plates from my neighbor’s trash and they sold same day as listing, albeit just for $10 (they were bent but still useable). Perhaps the reason they sold is that one was a “vintage looking” plate with older UGA logos. My son is at UGA and he says that is what the buyer wanted….as he’s not seen that one in the bookstores, etc.
I can’t mow the lawn without tripping over Auburn stuff. Those fans are 365 24/7.

I do sell vintage and modern sports apparel. Vintage has to have the “wow” factor or be a name brand. Big logos and/or big lettering are where the big money is. I occasionally get some pretty cool vintage stuff and even some athlete issued stuff for our local university that was donated to Goodwill. Smaller universities items do pretty good with the vintage stuff. Old Championship t-shirts and sweatshirts do pretty good.
For modern stuff the quality level has to be very high. Stick to like new name brands (Nike, Underarmour, etc). I also tend to stick to “bandwagon” teams that are popular across the whole country. I also like the large sizes. A 4x shirt is more likely to sell than a Medium, and for more money.
