Sign in with your username/password OR Sign in with facebook.
I guess they’re going to integrate some sort of system that shows what you’re looking at/purchasing with people on your Facebook list? Could be an explanation for some of the glitches? Otherwise, why Facebook?
Thoughts?
Considering Facebook tilts towards older users, this is not going to help fix their image of being a site for young people.
I find it interesting that it’s limited to Facebook only, and not Google and other sites as well. Maybe that will be added later?

About a week or two ago, the general look of the login page changed. Then today (or was it late yesterday), I noticed the addition of Facebook. I’m guessing that the changes aren’t finished.
I also noticed that some things have gone away. For instance, I haven’t seen an email in at least a month or more asking me to lower prices for items in someone’s cart or watch list.

That’s too bad. I put something in my cart hoping the seller would lower their price.

I would think eBay would see facebook as their biggest competitor. With Facebook Marketplace, all they need to do is add shipping/payments option and they’d crush eBay.

Facebook marketplace has no chance at displacing eBay as the go to site to buy antiques/collectibles/vintage house decorative items. Remember, eBay is 23 years old. Long time users respect that.

You may be right, but if I were eBay, I’d be worried about Facebook flipping on shipping/payment options. eBay may have a head start, but Facebook is where millions and millions of people are.

I hope eBay recognizes their unique niche in the online marketplace. There is power and a ton of money in the antique/collectible world. Facebook is a pretender.

if Facebook marketplace were to contend with ebay on a level playing field 100%, they would need to get into: payment processing, shipping and, most importantly, dispute arbitration. these are areas where ebay excels, even more so than Amazon imho. so that’s quite a leap from being a craigslist killer to an ebay killer. not saying they can’t do it, but i doubt it.

Many many sites allow you to log in using Facebook. It has become pretty standard. eBay is doing this because new buyers can log in easier and don’t actually need to go through creating a password etc….the whole idea is to make it easier for new people to start buying on eBay. It was discussed at eBay Open.

That’s interesting. I am logged into Facebook right now and see that there is a Payments setting under settings. In it, you can add your credit or debit card (or Paypal) directly into Facebook.
I guess it’s there for in-app purchases, or to send money to friends for “campaigns” they host during their birthdays or other times.
Would logging into Facebook on Ebay create a guest id for the buyer on Ebay? Or, would they create a username for that Facebook person that can be used repeatedly (but still look like one of those annoying guest account usernames?).
What is annoying is that this change isn’t mentioned under selling announcements on the dashboard, or in the fall update. It’s nice that they brought this up for the few hundred sellers that went to Ebay Open, but the majority of sellers don’t attend it, and should not have to rely on message boards to hear about changes like this.

Sharyn,
Apparently ebay is rolling out the ability for sellers to send offers to their watchers. I’m trying to get details on this. There was mention of it on the ebay for business podcast.

Here’s another new change on Ebay:
All Listings – Accepts Offers – Auction – Buy It Now
At the top of every search page.

i also noticed that i have to re-log in every day, which seems much more frequent than before.

Her are some details on the seller ability to notify watchers of a price reduction. This is from an ebay rep on the Community Boards. It’s only a pilot program for now:
Hi everyone,
I have received an update on this topic and wanted to share it here:
We are currently running a pilot where seller can initiate Best Offers to buyers. This feature will allow sellers to send offers to the 10 most recent watchers on their items. To qualify for this feature, the listing must:
Already have Best Offer
Be a single quantity fixed price listing
Have been listed on eBay for 10 days or more
At least one one watcher
Only one offer is allowed per watcher (for up to 10 watchers) and the offers will expire after the standard 48-hour duration. The message a buyer receives will clearly indicate that others have also received the same offer and the first to accept will get it. Once one buyer has accepted, the others will be notified that the seller’s offer is no longer available. Buyer’s who do not wish to receive these kinds of offers can opt out by changing their communication preferences. After the offer has been accepted, the seller will be notified and receive the buyer’s username. From here the transaction will proceed as any other.
While at this time the feature is only available to those using My eBay > Selling, we may expand this to those with Seller Hub in the future. Below we have included a screenshot of what this feature looks like for those who meet the listed criteria:

We are excited to begin offering sellers the opportunity to send offers to their watchers and are committed to closely monitoring this feature for any adjustments that may be needed!

I also have the same question that Sonia has: is “My eBay” different from the seller hub?
We just use this page: https://www.ebay.com/sh/ovwI think its cool their tryin this. I just hope that some sellers dont start using it to spam customers with offers. I guess if they do, buyers will just turn off that seller and hopefully not stop watching items they want.

“While at this time the feature is only available to those using My eBay > Selling, we may expand this to those with Seller Hub in the future.”
What’s “My ebay > Selling”? Do some sellers have a dashboard that is different from Seller Hub?

Always felt that 95% of watchers are sellers trying to see what something sells for. Wonder what would happen if they get an offer? Hmmmmmmm

Sonia, I think small, casual sellers have My eBay instead of Seller Hub, just as they have the simple listing form instead of the advanced listing form.

Sonia, MyCottage, and others…
On the top row of my ebay home page screen there is a “My eBay” dropdown if I click on that and select “Selling” then it will take me to “Seller Hub”. Is that what everyone else sees when you log in? I am just curious after reading this thread. (I am not part of the ‘initiate best offer pilot’, but will be on the lookout for it.)
Thanks!-

Yep, I click “my eBay” in the top right corner. Takes me to Seller Hub:
https://www.ebay.com/sh/ovwCurious what link other people use.

I click My eBay
Takes me to Bids/Offers page
I drop down on the My eBay
Click on Selling
Then I’m at Seller’s HubWhatever! I pretty much mentally filter out all of the different looks and directions I’m taken, just click click until I get to where I need to be. Maybe burnt out on the changes, but not aggravated and only wasting a few seconds getting to where I need to go. I don’t even bother trying to modify my landing pages anymore. Could be a lot of veteran as well as new ebayers are doing the same thing.
I understand your position in pinning some of this stuff down for the sake of forum questions and I’m sure your tech background raises your curiosity more than my non tech background does for me. I’m more amused than curious and just stumble along with success.
Ignorance is bliss for me with a lot of these changes and I also cop out and chalk up a lot of it to ‘there is a method to their (eBay) madness’.
