I am sure this has been discussed before but I cannot locate it on the forum.
This seems fairly simple but wanted to be sure. Buyer purchased item and sent immediate email asking to ship to a different address (not too far from address on account, same state and county here in So Cal) because she forgot to update her account address.
I sent her a message asking her to update her account address and let me know when she has done so. In the meantime I thought to just check here as I don’t fully trust Ebay’s Customer Support for a correct answer:
Should I ship to her requested address because she sent the request in writing? Or is it better to ship to address on account?Thank you in advance. I know for sure that this has been discussed before, just cannot locate the answer.

From what I remember of previous posts, most people said that it is okay to ship to the new address as long as you have the request it in writing in ebay messages – ebay will back you up. And it sounded like most people did indeed go ahead and comply with the buyer’s request. The only caveat mentioned was that you lose paypal seller protection.

If you have a message from them on eBay asking for the change in address, you are covered. We have never had an issue sending to another address when they have messaged us on eBay for the change.
If you are nervous, call eBay and ask if they see anything suspicious on the account (like it may be hacked, therefore the change in the address). I would likely only think this happens on higher end items. eBay should be able to see if there is suspicious activity (like a lot of purchases suddenly with new addresses requested).
Just make sure they are messaging you on eBay. NOT on email. All communication with the buyer should be on eBay Messages.

Thank you VERY much. Because the new address is so close to the old address (relatively) I feel certain it is just as she said, that she forgot to change her address. I will wait to see if she responds to my message but if not, I will just mail as you said to the address she sent in writing. Right now Ebay has a wait time of 72 minutes but I will try them too in a while.

I’ll bet…I have more tweaks to do when I get home. The F Up on the Sport Coats going to Suits was bad enough, but I will have to adjust my Polo shirts to the new category as well as play with Athletic stuff so that it goes to the new categories.
And then I update the templates.
I REALLY would like them to be done playing around for a while. Let us execute on sales for the rest of this year!

I’ve done it many times with no issues yet
I think if it was a high value item I would think more about it
But everytime it’s happened to me it has been $40 range or so -

What I normally do for different addresses requested is cancel the order and put “wrong address” as the reason. I relist the item and the buyer repurchases it and inputs the correct address through Paypal.
This is the only way you can maintain your seller protection through Ebay and Paypal.

I would probably do what almasty suggests for really high dollar items, but for lower dollar items, as others have said, if the request came through ebay messages, I just do it. If I were a buyer, I wouldn’t want to go through the hassle of cancelling and re-buying.

In the end I asked the buyer to please update their address on ebay and let me know when it was done before I print the shipping label. They did so. It did not change the address that was already on the sale, but at least I had it in writing that they wanted a change of address. It all worked out, the item arrived. No complaints or issues.
