Hi guys. Was given(!) about 50 sealed packs of Pokémon cards from the early 2000’s. I have no experience with them so I looked at solds and made a few auctions. One of the sets I listed matched a sold set exactly, even the upc’s are the same. That auction sold for over 300 bucks! The title included the words “1st edition” so I put that in mine as well. Got a message from someone asking how that was possible when they don’t say that on the package. Good question. Called ebay and they told me I can’t take the listing down because there are bids. They even went into google and did research while I sat on the line. Said they just want me to sell it as listed and hope for the best. I’m not trying to be dishonest and prefer a hassle free experience for both myself and my buyer. Any thoughts or advice would be much appreciated!

Can you look up the UPC elsewhere and see if the date/edition of the cards can be extrapolated?

Can you share your link?

Looks to me like yours are definitely not first edition, as they lack the first edition symbol in the lower corner of the front of the pack.
I know some things can’t be changed once bids have been obtained. I wonder if a subtitle can be added? Saying something like “Correction: Not first edition.”
After the auction closes, I would immediately notify the winning bidder of the problem, and give the bidder the opportunity to cancel.

I was doing a bit of research on this for my own curiosity, and nowhere in seal pack identification did I find info that there is a “1st edition” marking on the outside of the packs. The actual cards have 1st edition markings.
You may want to bite the bullet and open a pack. Who knows, maybe you’ll get lucky and pull a mint 1st edition holo charizard. Hey it could happen!

Another possibility is to end the listing and relist with correct information.

I actually did find my cards as first editions. There is a little black badge in the lower right corner that says first edition. I am tempted to open a pack! I relished them correctly as an auction last night and had a nice note from a buyer who was willing to give me 60$ Including shipping if I could verify they were in great condition because he needed them for his nephews birthday. 🤨

Because there are bids, you literally can not end the listing. Ebay has it programmed so as to block/stop the removal. Once the bidding closes, I would offer that you sincerely and calmly message the buyer with something like- Hello such and such. I see that you have won the auction and it is with my sincerest apologies that I must inform you of an inaccuracy that was in the listing title. It was noted that this is the first edition which was a mistake. I sincerely apologize for this mistake and would like to know if you would like to continue with the purchase or if you would like to cancel it. Again, I am sorry for this error and apologize for any inconvience it may have caused. Thank you.

Hi guys. Thanks for the insight. First I went into the listing and was able to add a note to the description about the error. Then just for kicks I tried to end the listing. It looked like it would end but before I tried I sent the 2 bidders a note explaining/apologizing. Then I went back and ended it and it worked! Not sure why ebay said I couldn’t but glad I tried and glad I was able to talk to you guys about it too!

Good that it worked out.
I am surprised the listing ended. I have literally seen a block when trying to end an auction. Check your seller ratings inside of the Seller Hub to make sure it did not trigger a defect.
