I just sold an item to a famous person. Now, I am not into celebrity culture. Sure, I follow LeVar Burton on Twitter, but I am rarely logged in. I happen to know and appreciate my buyer’s work. Would it be creepy if I included a short, handwritten note of appreciation to my buyer for his/her work in the media? This is not an A-lister a paparazzi problem, if that makes any difference. I don’t feel strongly either way, but I do like to share encouragement and admiration when opportunities present themselves.

I have never sold to a big name celebrity that I know of. I have sold to a celebrity’s spouse before – a pair of unusual and cool eyeglass frames. But here’s something weird: I just sold an item to a VERY HIGH LEVEL PERSON at EBAY. (Not Griff). As the kids say, it’s so meta.
I put it on sale a few days ago with a bunch of other bulkier items — I needed to condense my inventory space — and now it’s gone! Thanks, eBay executive person! -

Oh, and no. I probably won’t include a note. What would it say? Thanks for the $$$ now and the website forever?
But I think it would be fine if you sent a note of appreciation. Sure!

I will include a note that will say something like…
“Dear M__,
I really enjoyed reading your book, _______________. It brought me joy and laughter during a time when I really needed it.
Thank you,

Over the years I’ve sold books to quite a number of well-known authors. If they’re a personal favorite, I’ll write a note of appreciation. I’ve received quite a few responses in return which definitely made my day!

I think its fine if the note is respectful as yours would be. If the person didn’t want to be known, they’d buy under an assumed name.

Maybe time to make a celebrity crush list for eBay….?
As I sit here watchin’ Chopped right now , I would like to sell some Wagner ware to Martha Stewart! I would sell just about anything to Willie Nelson; Both underdogs and outlaws – but bad ass business people and artists in their own right-If I get a Lavar Burton, I will let you know…Fun Times for a seller regardless !!!!

I barely glance at the name as I’m printing the label, and that is only to confirm I’m putting the right label on the right package. I couldn’t care less who I’m selling to as long as the money is in paypal.
I think at this point in life I’m pretty over the whole celebrity thing. They’re just people at the end of the day. I’d like to think that a reasonable celebrity would appreciate my IDGAF attitude toward them in this TMZ day & age.
Now my wife on the other hand, if she saw I sold something to a celebrity – any celebrity…possibly even a family member of a celebrity then she would be all over it.

Of course they’re just people at the end of the day. While I appreciate privacy and anonymity as much as the next person, I also appreciate it when people tell me they like my work. When I go to art shows in my city, I might tell the artists I like their work, or even ask questions about their processes. I don’t have regular opportunities to tell nationally known artists or writers in different cities that I enjoy their work. A random opportunity came up to share my interest, and at the end of the day, there are friends to know and ways to grow…
