Rockabilly Style Bowling Shirt – Purchased at the Goodwill Outlet for under $1 and sold for $100 after much negotiation with a buyer who I’m pretty sure was trying to trick me into a lower price. I stood my ground and it worked.
Vintage Nikes – As I was researching these, I couldn’t find anything like them so I posted a question on a sneaker forum. Someone knew just what they were and said they sell for about $50 max. I gave it a go anyway and they sold for $110 after a long wait. I probably paid a couple bucks for them.
Vintage Halloween Die-Cut decoration – Bought at auction in a big box of similar items which have sold well. I think this worked out to $3-4 and sold for $45.
Filson Vest – I paid up for this at a yard sale ($20), but it was in perfect condition and I knew it would sell. I love Filson everything. Sold for $105.
Steve – How did you check the controls and wiring in the steering wheel? I’d be concerned that some of the controls don’t work; otherwise, why would the dealer remove it?
I usually try to show about three items that sold, but I really had a decent week with a number of interesting sales.
It started out with this vintage fedora hat in hardly used condition that I bought for $2 at a rummage sale. When doing my research, I noticed that most were selling in the $30 to $40 range, but one sold at over $200 at auction! So, I decided to try out an auction starting at $42, and it sold for $53. Not quite the $200 price, but more than what I would have started it with. It sold to Shop Airlines, which is a drop shipper that buys for Japanese people. I’ve sold a few things to them in the past. I purchased this vintage heated rollers set for styling hair from an online auction with other heated rollers, a bonnet hair dryer, and several electric trimmers. In my research, I found that heated roller sets sell very well – definitely a BOLO. This one sold right away, and the other one sold yesterday. I think I paid about $5 for the whole lot. I bought this vintage, working sewing machine for $25 over a year ago. Apparently, it’s just a department store that had a manufacturer brand machines for them. There are a number of brands like this, and they aren’t worth as much as Singer and other better known brand names. I don’t seem to do too well in retail arbitrage. I bought this weather station for $10 from a warehouse sale. It was also an item that was re-listed because it had been around for so long. Sold for $40. I think these were originally sold in at Williams Sonoma for around $130. I always like to pick up Judaica when I can. I saw this menorah at a yard sale for $10. I don’t like to negotiate much, but I did ask them to throw in something else for free. I just make sure the wiring is intact as the switches themselves usually would be replaced if that was what was wrong. Body shops aren’t concerned with aesthetics or anything, just selling more parts and service, most times the wheel gets replaced if just the air bag is deployed.
For other confused people like me, the Chrome browser for Android mobile recently moved the video “cast” control to the 3-dot menu at the right of the progress bar.

I’ll start off with my big sale of the week. I acquired this vintage International Harvester cooling system cleaner can in a box lot of other garage advertising cans that I got for $17.50. This is one of those brands that people love to collect as I found out when I did some price searching. I thought it would do well as an auction, so I started it at $65 which was about what I would have priced it anyway. By the end of the auction, it sold for $162! International Harvester Can
I started buying these Napa Valley wood media holders whenever I saw them, but realized that they were really taking up a lot of space in my inventory. And they’re kind of a pain to ship. I’m a sucker for analog gauges and scientific measuring instruments. Sometimes they can pay off. Here’s a good example. It’s an altimeter made by Taylor Instruments. I found it at an estate sale and I thought I overpaid for it at $15. Well it took a few months but it finally sold for full price of $100! Taylor Instruments Analog Altimeter

I found two vintage paper church fans at a roadside thrift store in the middle of nowhere, on the way to….somewhere. I think I paid $9-10 for them both. Listed them as a set, but had a Buyer ask to buy the first one, featuring 4 African American leaders of the civil rights movement, separately for $35. This week was weird in that I sold a couple of very, very old listings and quite a few of my brand new listings from this week. Really need to do some stale listing maintenance maybe.

This was a cool vintage stationery sale, paid .99 at GW, sold super quickly. Hallmark Postalettes Check out this example I found while researching this – more similar solds for over $100. Bolo 70s cutsie character Hallmark stationery for over $100 Also, Peanuts Hallmark stationery is quite collectible and I find that these items are super easy to list and ship but overlooked locally.
Yeah! I sold one of my son’s textbooks without waiting for Fall. High School Textbook I think it helped pinning it and doing free shipping because there were some on Ebay listed for less. Got in a dig at Amazon as part of my description. I like listing books on Ebay. I usually tweak the titles and don’t just go with the catalog because I can add relevant terms that are missing.
