Hi,
I feel like I should probably have been able to find this info myself, but in the interest of saving time, I’ll ask the community. This morning I asked my normally very friendly and helpful postal workers about some tracking that had not uploaded on packages I dropped off yesterday. That issue has been resolved, but I was told by the “boss lady” at my local PO that I should start printing a manifest for all packages I drop off each day (I ALWAYS take my packages to the post office, I do not have them picked up; usually 1-5 per day), so they only have to scan the 1 bar code to upload tracking info for all packages on the manifest. She said, otherwise, “new postal rules” are that they may not/will not scan more than 5 packages dropped off at one time. That sounded quite horrible to me, since I rely on them scanning in packages every day to show that I have upheld my end of the 1-day shipping (not to mention, accurate tracking is supposed to be included in the shipping cost). Her reason for this was that by printing labels from online and getting a shipping discount, the postal workers are not supposed to have to do as much “scanning.” I don’t take dozens of packages and dump on their desk daily, honestly. Any advice on how/where I can find how to print a manifest for packages I take to the PO every day would be greatly appreciated. Thanks for allowing me to be a part of this great community! ~Wendy

She is totally making crap up. Luckily my postal workers are good and are happy to scan everything. They always ask if I want a receipt as well (which you are completely entitled to) but they always scan everything so I just drop and run even if there is a line.
They are required to scan everything. Period.

Im pretty sure there is a way to print out a page that has one barcode. By scanning that, all the packages are scanned immediately. Someone else here probably knows how to generate it.
But as RetroTreasures WV said, it’s also their job to scan packages. She should instead be grateful they are getting credit for the postage. If she were to refuse to scan, then you can always complain to her boss.

I would pass this on to Griff at eBay (griff@ebay.com). He sent this issue to me yesterday in our conversation. This is direct from him:
USPS Label Scanning:
For reports of US Post Office clerks or drivers not scanning your pre-paid labeled packages at drop off or pick up, I must have the following 4 data points or I cannot forward your report:
·Zip code
·Post Office Station name
·Item numbers (for shipments not scanned)
·Tracking numbers (for all un-scanned labels)
NOTE:
I cannot assist with the following:
·Parcels lost or damaged in transit.
·Parcels scanned as delivered but buyer claims never arrived.
·Scheduled pick ups were the driver never shows up.
You need to contact USPS for those issues.
NOTE: I cannot remove Late Shipment marks from your Seller Performance.
TIP! Are you printing out a scan sheet for multiple labels? It is much easier to get a USPS clerk or driver to scan one sheet as opposed to several separate labels on individual packages. If you print out your labels on eBay in bulk, you will have the option of printing out a single scan sheet.

The problem with the Post Office, is that there are no uniform rules. The Local Postmaster can basically come up with their own polices.
My local Post Office told me that one a couple of towns over is refusing to print scan confirmations, when a package is dropped off.
I think the only way to combat this is to complain. Hopefully common sense will prevail and the Post Office will begin acting like a business.
My guess is that you’ll need to use the bulk shipping tool to print a manifest. I’m sure others will chime in.
Good Luck.

Yes, the bulk shipping tool will generate the SCAN form. The downside is that you have to generate all of the labels at once, then match them to the packages.
This was one reason we started using Shippo. We can generate the labels one at a time, then when we are done, we print the manifest (SCAN form) for all labels printed during that day up to the time of the manifest. Much easier.

Wendy,
I would offer that you look into ebay bulk direct from ebay as well as go to USPS.com to find information about printing out a manifest. Even if you don’t use it, it’s good to know especially if the number of items you ship increases.
As for the boss lady, not that is ok, but she may have been taking some frustration out on you from what she sees with sellers coming in and out all day. I am sure postal workers see more than we know of sellers bringing in a wide range of packages and asking for a wide range of services, so I would not take it personally if the postal worker is expressing frustration. I would offer to see if you can go to another post office for a bit just to let this manager cool her jets. I would also offer that you go about your business and then maybe return to your normal post office at a different time than you normally go.
