Once again, you’ve got some cool sales, Steven! That Monroe calendar sale was amazing. I was expecting you to say it sold for 30 or 40 bucks. But $250! Nice! I made a few really interesting sales last week too. Here’s some highlights…
The more I learn about flatware, the more I love buying it when it goes cheap enough. I’m learning to look out for certain brands, as well as things to look for when going through the big baskets of mismatched flatware in every thrift store for a dime a piece. This spoon is a great example. Made by Mikasa, it has a nice modern look (antique or fancy designs aren’t really sought after right now) and it has good weight. The first thing I do is research the maker and design on replacements.org. That’ll give you their going rate per piece. I sold this individual spoon for $27.
Mikasa TeaspoonAnother thing that I love picking up now are vintage metal kitchen canister sets. I don’t do much to clean them up other than wash any stale sugar or coffee out of them. This copper set made by Benjamin & Medwin was really nifty. I got it for $4 at an auction. It took a couple months to sell but it went for full price of $50.
Copper Kitchen Canister SetHere’s my big sale of the week. This small Motorola AM tube radio came in a box lot, and it was filthy! I took some time and cleaned it up as nice as I could. Prices for old Motorola radios were all over the place, but this particular model wasn’t even listed. So I price it high at $100. I kept getting really low offers and was worried that I priced it too high. But when a guy offered $85, I took it. Not bad after only paying $2.50 for it originally .
Green Motorola Flip RadioHere’s a sale that came at a surprise. I acquired a box lot full of little goo gahs for $8, so each individual sellable item only came to .38 cents. One of the items was this little box of old candy called Sen-Sen. I’ve never heard of it before, but some of the sold prices on eBay were really high. Must have been a popular candy that went out of production. I tasted one and it was horrible! LOL. But it sold for full price of $30.

I just found a Lincoln Beautyware canister set unused in the box.
Not as nice looking as those copper ones, these are white enamel.

Ditto on the Marilyn Monroe calendar sale – I figured it went for a lot, but wanted to double check that I heard $250 correctly. 🙂 Do you remember where you found that?
@DoublyThumbs – nice spoon sale! Love those little things.Managed to do decent sales, if not high money, while on vacation last week. We’ll see if the trend holds for this week, which has largely been a sick week, ugh.
Some highlights from last week – many long-held items:
I scooped up 3 of these napkin holders at an interesting estate sale many months ago. Google Swedish napkin doll, or some such, and you can see pictures of what they look like decked out with a skirt of napkins. Took me a while to get them up and listed, but one just sold for $20 (paid $2 each): https://www.ebay.com/itm/Vintage-Swedish-Wooden-Napkin-Holder-Doll-Traditional-Dress-Smaland-10-25/323250766992
I’ve sold a lot of vintage Fownes gloves in the last two years, generally picking them up for $2 a pair at estate sales. The nicest I sold were rabbit fur lined, some have been cashmere, and this week sold another pair lined in acrylic. These are unlined, driving gloves, perforated. They belonged to my great aunt, and I really wish they had fit my hands – so stylin’! Alas, sold to someone for $25 who is surely going to enjoy them: https://www.ebay.com/itm/Vintage-Fownes-Brown-Deerskin-Leather-Womens-Perforated-Driving-Gloves-Size-5-6/323156655129
From the estate sale/auction where I purchased entire closets of clothing for super cheap (and proceeded to get overwhelmed), I finally sold a lot of vintage 80s wide elastic belts, not even the jazziest ones I have, for $30: https://www.ebay.com/itm/Lot-5-Vintage-1980s-New-Wave-Chunky-Wide-Fashion-High-Waisted-Stretch-Belts-03/323088715260
Took a best offer of $47 for this awesome vintage Austrian hat, just trying to unload a few things and eke out a few more sales. Had a few watchers since I first listed it, as well as some inquiries with lower offers. I think I paid $7 for it at a thrift store last year. https://www.ebay.com/itm/Vintage-P-C-Habig-Wien-Loden-Felt-Tyrolean-Fedora-Hat-Austria-Sz-7-3-8/323012205327
Fingers crossed that these arrive undamaged, and are not returned to me! Finally sold a set of 3 lovely Haviland Limoges platters that I’ve had listed for about a year. They’ve had lots of watchers, but I was afraid I was looking for too much for them, or had their Schleiger # wrong or something. I gave them lots of extra packaging and sent them on their way in a huge box. Paid $30 at a church thrift store. https://www.ebay.com/itm/S-3-Theodore-Haviland-Limoges-France-Platters-Trays-Princess-Schleiger-57-Star/322834265248

Hey SFF: A heads up. Wanted to take a look at your store and first thing I see is your header that says “Shipping will restart on May 20th”. Did you mean to remove that or did you mean to put 6/20th.
Just thought I would let you know.
Take care.

The Marilyn calendar was part of a large hobby collection I obtained last summer. I had much higher hopes but after 6 months I took a best offer.
You might remember a suite of Marilyn photos I sold from that same collection went for $700.

Gah! Thanks for the heads up, Mike. I arrived home from vacation and promptly fell sick, so some things slid… Fixed now!

Thank you Steve. Some cool stuff up there. I listed a bit this week and I’m specializing in low dollar items this weekend apparently. But, small sales are better than no sales. Also sold a couple of really old items in my store – yeah!
Found a small cache of these NOS vintage door knockers in different brass tone designs. This one is going to the Netherlands. https://www.ebay.com/itm/332637985139 The storage locker hoarder guy who I bought them from lost his lease again. I hope he resurfaces.
This is a good brand to find. Paid $8 at local thrift, took a best offer of $50, and it had some wear areas so I sold it for less than they go for in better shape. https://www.ebay.com/itm/332515385817
I like to sell vintage NOS sheets in the package. They cost between $2-4 and fit, go for $15-20 and up, and fit in a PFRE https://www.ebay.com/itm/232744364729 https://www.ebay.com/itm/232493159630. My used cartoon sheets are not really moving well but I did sell this unusual vintage Mickey one for $50. Buyer said she will use for fabric, which I did have in the title. Paid $2 at thrift https://www.ebay.com/itm/232637556502.
I took a best offer of $36 on these. Was hoping to get more since they were high quality french – Pillivuyt brand carried by Williams Sonoma. Paid $6 at the old lady indy thirft and they went up to Silicon Valley. https://www.ebay.com/itm/232402191475
Did some RA at a garage sale buying these for a buck. Not making much and they sat for a while but all of the sudden they are selling off, maybe getting around on Pinterest? https://www.ebay.com/itm/232403412126
Have a nice long weekend those of you who are pt.
