Oh Hello!
Thanks for having me, wow planet ebay is fun! I have no idea what I’m doing, and thank you all for helping me learn so much. Currently near Seattle but headed south of the border soon, just for a week-
Should I shut it all down in vacation mode or make everything 8 business day shipping? Leaning toward the latter without education…
I don’t think I have a store, just a handle, sallysuniverse – in case you want a peak and a laugh 😉
Cheers to sunshine and smooth sale’ing

Fun, with a whole lot of work. Depends on if you want it to be a hobby or a source of income.

Hey Big Sally –
Welcome!
I think most sellers here will do what you are considering – change handling time to cover your vacation. At five business days in, you can slowly move your handling time down until you are at your normal level.
If someone buys something while you still have a greatly extended handling time, you can send them a short note saying something to the effect:
“Thank-you for your purchase. I am currently on travel and have extended my handling time. If the shipping date doesn’t work for you, then please request cancellation. Otherwise, you do not have to respond and I will ship your item on my return.”
I checked out your items for sale, and your photography is good, descriptions are complete (much longer than what I would write since I have so many items to list), and titles look descriptive. Good job!

Thanks for the feedback,Sharyn and Jay-
Is it a hobby or income or both? Oh my!
For me, it’s a hobby, I am in the last month of my self imposed “gap year” after retiring very young, and I needed to do something productive- But I will never work for anyone again. I have a goal of making about 400.00 per month – The “work” you describe…I had no idea the learning curve would be so steep, and thank heavens and the universe for folks like you, here and on youtube.
I love youtube, for everything.have a great day,

Hi Sally and Welcome!
You will find a ton of information here on the SL Forums and back in the old blog [which all are searchable BTW]. But if you don’t know what you don’t know may be hard to find by topic. So if you are just getting ready to approach Ebay either as a Hobby seller or to start doing it more seriously may I suggest the Ebay University located in the Seller area.
Here is the link: http://pages.ebay.com/pe/en-us/university/
This is a good place to start because most of the basic topics are covered and you are getting the information straight from the horses mouth. Then once you have reviewed most of the topics then SL members can help clarify and expand upon this information. One of the things experienced sellers find out is though coming “straight from the horses mouth”, Ebay does speak, at times, two languages, out the side of it’s mouth and maybe with a forked tongue. LOL :-). In other words they can contradict themselves and also be very unclear at times. So a place like SL is a great place to read about or ask about things for that needed clarification. But one must get the basics down and also Ebay does have rules and SOP [standard operating procedures] that you need to become familiar with. You must do the leg work [due diligence] up front on those. The Seller Center and University is what I feel, in my opinion, the best place to start.
Good luck and maybe one day we will see your posted number for thousands of items and a grand number for your monthly sales.

I checked out your store and looks like you are off to a fantastic start with items that sell for decent prices. I remember when I started out and the first time I sold something for over $10, I was so excited! lol. Enjoy the ride.

Thanks Mike- I’m halfway though all the forum topics, then I promise I will go straight to the university, for some higher learning. Mike please don’t jinx me with a 1000 item store! that would seriously cut into my screwing off time….and that is my full time job, screwing off, it takes laser focus.
Thanks Sonia, for taking the time to look at my stuff, it is exciting! who knew a vintage exer-genie would sell in 15 minutes for 74.00?
stay well,
sally
