Recently I’ve had 2 items in a row blocked by the GSP. The first one consisted of vintage cigarette tins, so I assumed the reason had to do with blocking things related to tobacco. However, the most recent was a vintage 1950s women’s blazer — tweed with fur collar. The buyer was based in Hong Kong. According to the messages I received from eBay, both buyer and seller are reimbursed in these cases so I’m not worried about the money. But just wondering why these items weren’t flagged at time of purchase, or what makes a vintage jacket ineligible to be shipped to Hong Kong?
On a side note: I wonder what happens to these blocked items? Do they become Goodwill donations? -

–We’ve had a couple items blocked after selling through GSP. as you said, its not big deal since eBay doesnt penalize you the seller and makes the buyer whole.
–The issue is usually some kind of banned substance. The fur collar sounds like the culprit.
–Why doesnt eBay flag these items before sale? Good question.
–These items probably get put in a big bin and sold at an auction. You’ve been paid so its all good. -

Fur (even a small amount on a collar) is very difficult to ship across borders due to various international animal/wildlife protection laws. The fur needs to be documented well on a tag, and on a customs form.

If you read through the Ebay’s list of prohibited items, see link below, you will see that furs are not allowed. Probably you listed it under an acceptable category, but they realized it had fur when they inspected it. Since their software didn’t flag it as prohibited, they reimburse both the buyer and seller.
http://pages.ebay.com/help/sell/shipping-globally.html#prohibitedThey actually resell the items that are blocked with GPS. Someone once posted a link to the reseller. Maybe someone can post it here.

I dont know if eBay sells items that don;t get mailed to buyers. I do know that USPS and Amazon definitely have auctions for these kinds of items. Assume eBay does the same.
Most likely they just sell in bulk to an auctioneer who then sells to dealers.

Ebay definitely has an account where they resell prohibited items. I just went through the forum and found the posts:
Money refunded via paypal without any notice from paypal/ebay on GSP item.
Here is the seller in Michigan:

I understand that they will often reuse photos and descriptions word-for-word.
