Time sure flies…..I remember selling a little Cast Iron train without pictures to a guy a few towns over. We met at a mall parking lot to conduct the transaction. I bought one of those digital cameras that used a 3.5 Inch floppy disc…I think it held 15 or so pictures..

I remember my first camera for eBay was the Sony Mavica as well! Remember when you would take a picture and “MAVICA” would roll on the screen like slot machine wheels while it saved the photo?
Better then my previous method of printing photos from 35mm film and scanning them in and loading them up to Geocities to host them!
I also miss going to the bank with stacks of oddball checks and money orders before Billpoint was introduced.
Funny – my 21st anniversary is also this year – April 20th.

Crazy! Congrats! I’ve been a user since 2000, but just checked my old emails, and the first items I sold were back in 2009.

I don’t have the records of when I first bought or sold something on Ebay. I know that my mom’s hobby is entering sweepstakes, and she won some books. I sold them for her. I think this was the late 90’s, and I’m pretty sure I didn’t use photos. In fact, I was late in the game even getting a digital camera.
I opened my current account in 2003. I had forgotten my password for my original account, and, at that time, they did not have an easy link to click like “forgot my password”. I could have called, but opening a new account was easier.
I didn’t really start selling much until the end of 2015. I found this podcast in the beginning of 2016.

We (hubby and me) started selling online in 1999, but we started on yahooauctions. eBay was fairly new and we felt it to be a little intimidating then, so our first eBay sale wasn’t until 2001. Back then it was kinda great to go to the mailbox every day and see all the checks, money orders, and sometimes cash! We also were fearless back then and put EVERYTHING on auction starting at .99. We never had any worries because things ALWAYS sold for at least what we thought they were worth and lots of times for more. Boy, you sure can’t do that today! Our first payment processor was X.com which I believe was eventually bought out by PayPal. And our first digital camera was also the Sony Mavica!! It truly was a good little camera and in my opinion, took much better pictures than our current camera (or maybe we were just more familiar with it!). Cheers to all the “long tail” sellers!

2002 for me. Lots of cashier’s checks and Bidpay. I didn’t get a Paypal account until many tears later. Most of my items shipped Fedex Ground.
Back then the sold items seemed to stay on Ebay forever. You could see what other people were buying on and possibly watching. It was a different world.
