Has anyone else noticed that some vintage books can range from very low to REALLY high prices on Amazon? Do the people asking for 200, 300, 500+ on a book actually get it when there are others listed in MUCH lower price brackets?
Just as an example, I have a “Japanese Radio, Record, & Tape Player Schematic/Servicing Manual” I plan to price it at $20.00 but I see one at 334+.
Any thoughts on this very curious phenomenon?

In my experience selling books on Amazon, it depends on the book. I looked up the book you’re planning on listing and I would say your price of $20 is where I would list it too. Sometimes repricing programs will cause those crazy prices that you see on some listings. And then, I’ve noticed some megalisters price books high when there are no listings or only a few listings.

I sell a fair amount of vintage and collectible books of all types. I’ve probably got about 300 for sale at any one time.
Like anything else, it’s about supply and demand. When in doubt you can list it high and see what happens, but as a rule, the “sold” results are what really matters.
If there are others available, much cheaper, it’s probably listed high, because the seller is out of stock and doesn’t want to take down the listing. This happens a lot on Amazon.
Good Luck.

Joe, did you see that Duarte craiglist free books listing from yesterday! OMG 10K collectible books. I was heading out there but I had another stop to make first, by the time I called to check if any left, gone!
My book is not being sold on Ebay (I think I saw one that was close like mine for a high price not sold) and no sold results but it is listed on Amazon for about 20.00 and of course the odd one at 300+
Can you clarify what you said: “I’ve probably got about 300 for sale at any one time.” I don’t think I totally understood what you meant.

Yes, I saw the listing for free books. I’m still digging out of a bunch of books I bought months ago. I’m surprised they went that fast.
I’ve got over 300 listings for books in my Ebay store. I’ve got about 100 waiting to get donated and a bunch more to sort through.

If your item is not being listed currently on Ebay, then bump up the price. People buy on impulse and many don’t check Amazon. The Amazon listings typically don’t have pictures or very detailed information either.

Thanks Joe, I will do it and let you know how that goes.

Over the past 6months or so, Amazon has been making it much more difficult for (average) 3rd party booksellers (lots of road blocks). Many folks have now listed their inventory on Ebay. Huge price variations. I just bought a signed first edition of a contemporary English author for $9. Prices are all over the place, $150 – $40 down to $9. Just my humble opinion.

I agree, there has clearly been an influx of book sellers. They are easy enough to spot. There are few, if any pictures. The description is not always detailed and the feedback ratings are sometimes not so good.
I am still selling books. I take lots of pictures and give accurate descriptions. I pack well and ship quickly. I’m not too worried about these new sellers. When someone buys from them, they get what they pay for.
If you can get deals as a buyer, I say go for it.
I wish I had the room, I’d stockpile all the old books I could get a hold of. One day, they’ll all be gone and the world will want to know where they all went.

I also always cross check on ABE for pricing, I only sell the occasional book on etsy so am only mildly invested in following the market.
