Hey Jay and Ryan, you might want to check these out, we have bought 15 of these and intend on getting more. They are very sturdy and heavy, and the price is amazing. You could get 3 of these for the price of the ones you mentioned.

Those are cool shelves. Neat that they’re on wheels. We’re going to need more shelving to store lighter stuff so these could be an option.
We bought these: https://www.lowes.com/pd/Gladiator-72-in-H-x-77-in-W-x-24-in-D-Steel-Freestanding-Shelving-Unit/1000003004
Each shelf holds up to 2000 lbs. This might be overkill but we want to start with a solid foundation. We can put 12 big plastic tubs on each one of these without any fear of the shelf falling down. In our early days, we tried to cheap out on shelving and had a disaster of a Walmart shelf system collapsing and inventory going everywhere/breaking.We plan to really pack these shelves so I want to be confident.

Those are very nice, huge too, for all that storage area, that is a great price.

By my calculations, we can fit 120 large plastic bins on the ten sets of shelves we bought.
The shelves will take up a little more than 25% of the space the way we plan to configure them.
This will hold about 80% of our inventory. The rest of our inventory is artwork, glassware, rugs, etc. Stuff that could fit on those rolling shelves you mentioned.
Pus we’ll leave about 25% of the space for furniture and large items.

Jay – also check CL for shelves. A seller in my neck of the woods (CT) is selling brand new heavy duty metal shelving units for cheap. Also, what plastic bins do you buy to hold your items?

Great idea. We bought these 10 sets of shelving at Lowes because it was an awesome price (and delivered). Plus I didnt want to just have a bunch of mismatched shelving to start.
But I agree that as we expand, we’ll scavenge most of the other shelving. I’ve seen shelving sold at auctions too.

I have found the best (and worst) shelving on CL and FB marketplace.
I have a dozen or so wood shelving units from a Ford dealer parts department, 4 sections of grocery store type gondola shelving and a number of oddball light weight shelving.
I spent less than $200 for all of that.

These are the shelves I use:
I fit 4 of the cheap walmart tubs on each shelf. I’m VERY happy with these shelves – they are cheap and pretty easy to assemble.

I agree on scavenging for shelves and bins. We have purchased a TON of these for low dollars through those methods. You might try the Nextdoor app as well…

Agreed. We’ve gotten most of our plastic bins this way.
We wanted to start out with a strong foundation of actual warehouse-like shelving that can hold anything we have. We have bins that weight 200 pounds each (books, weight, metal) that would crush the kinds of home storage shelves I see on CL.
We’ll post photos once we get it all installed. Warehouse porn!

Completely understand. I have some really solid ones similar to yours, and I get having that solid feel. Plus, there is definitely something to be said for having a lot of similar bins and shelves, so that it stays organized and the pieces are interchangeable, rather than the hodgepodge you can get when scavenging.
I am always fighting the OCD side with the scavenging side…

I just started using shelves from Home Depot. Edsal 72″ x 48″ x 24″ perfect for the 55L Sterilite bins I use. Tight fit but I get 3 bins per shelf, 5 shelves but you can stack them 2 high on the top shelf so 18 bins per rack. I thought of scavenging bins but my inner Monk wants them all to be the same and clean and new.

I recently picked up 3 of these. They are heavy duty, come with wheels (which is nice for moving with inventory already stored) and are height adjustable. I was able to get nearly all of my 1000+ items on two of these. I highly recommend them for agile storage.
You can purchase these from Costco even without a membership. I believe they add 5% to the price or you can sign up for a membership if you would be a more frequent customer and can justify the membership cost. All told, 3 of these shipped to my door was less than $600. They took about 20 minutes each to set up.
