I think I might have mentioned this issue a while back and might not effect those selling one of a kind items. But this is the 4th time that I have had this issue with items that have multiple variations. And this time I have solid proof. I sold a bra today and when I couldn’t find it in my inventory I knew it had sold before. I was able to find that the same bra sold back in June. When I contacted ebay about it they said it was a “glitch” but could tell me that it wouldn’t happen again. I knew I wasn’t going crazy.

Huh, so you sold an item, but eBay didn’t delete it from your inventory?
When you canceled the sale, did eBay make you whole? -

That’s correct. And this isn’t the first time it has happened. Ebay told me to reach out to my customer and explain what has happen, and to cancel using the customer requested option. The rep said that it wouldn’t go against me. It just so happens that it’s the same customer that bought the bra back in June. I would hate to lose a repeat customer because of ebay’s glitch. I’m frustrated with this because this is the 4th time this has happen the first time I figured I messed up. The second time I called ebay and they said that couldn’t happen but they would give a one time pass. So the third time I thought what am I doing wrong, but then it happened again and I was able to prove it because the two sales had happen fairly recently to each other. Since 3 out of the small mom and pop thrifts closed down by me I went back to selling mostly clothing. The goodwills here clothing options here are not very good(mostly walmart and Kohl’s brand) I’ve started buying wholesale. With that I get the same item in different sizes. It seems to be happening with those listing that have the variations that are good to canceled. So now I have to go through and do a thorough inventory check.

Understood. eBay should fix their technical bugs so you can focus on selling and customer service. But we all know that eBay is big and clunky, often with weird bugs that make running a store difficult. For us, we just figure out how to sell in spite of the problems.
In your case, when you sell an item with multiples, I would just check the inventory to make sure the numbers are correct. Does it happen every single time an item sells? Or just randomly? No matter what, keeping a closer eye on inventory is key until they fix the issue.
Just curious: how much net profit do you make on wholesale items? I assume there’s a lot of competition?

It seems to just be random. You’re right I just need to make sure that when an item with variations sells that its no longer for sale.
With the wholesale there is more competition. But I’m selling mostly plus size clothing, and bras. I’m purchasing from another re-seller who has buys a truck load and then sells off some cases to other re-sellers. So typical per item I buy at between $3-$5 per item and sell between $15-$25 per item.

When I was selling multiple items on GTC, I had a similar problem. eBay advised that it has a “no stock” option. I can’t remember how to find it, but you can Google it easily enough. Basically, you set your sales to “no stock” and then, when an item sells out of its listed quantity and makes zero, it shows the item but as not available. It works on a “whole site” principle, so your entire store will then operate on that basis, but it prevents any sales going through when there’s no stock.
The biggest PITA about selling multiples on GTC with the no stock option is that you have to manually end every sale. I hated it, but it was just one more chore every morning. And I didn’t have to deal with cancelling a sale, so I guess the inconvenience was worth the trade off.

Amatino Thanks for the info. I’ll have to look into that further. For right now I took off GTC off of my multiples and have them listed at 30 days.
