This listing has been up for a year and it finally sold. I shipped it out and got a message from my buyer saying
“I did not get what i ordered” I asked her what she received, and she responded with
“The plate i got just had a plain green background instead of the cool background here in the pic”Now, the error on me is that I used the photo with my reflection as the first photo in the listing (lesson learned) but there are 11 (eleven!) photos in this listing and they all show the plain green background. I don’t know whether to laugh at this, or … actually, I don’t know what the ‘or’ is.
My initial response was to reply that I’ve checked all 11 photos and they show a plain green background, except the one with my reflection, however she’s welcome to return it if she wants; but nobody likes being made a fool, and I did use that as the first photo in my listing. Should I just refund her the $5? I’m not willing to pay for shipping to get it back, and I don’t think I should pay for the shipping to get it to her if she honestly didn’t realize the “cool background” was a reflection, but I did use the reflection photo as the main photo. (Oh, lesson definitely learned!)
Please, oh wonderful Trash Elves, suggestions….?

this sounds similar to buyers remorse for color. i would say, just ship it back if you don’t like it. but you should not have to pay for shipping, as she just doesnt like it and is looking for any reason to say it’s your fault so she doesnt have to pay fees.

Agree with Ryanne. I’ll bet when you say ship it back, we don’t want our customers to have to be stuck with something they don’t like, you will probably not hear from her again. As far as a refund, I say no, what kind of knuckle head can’t tell a reflection, especially with 11 other photos to substantiate the overall look of the object.
But again, so much of these things are just opinions.
But one thing I have learned after 40 years in business, don’t be afraid of your customers. Be nice, but not afraid. I “fired” – Walmart as a customer years ago and they were a 1.2 million dollars account for us, but they were more trouble than they were worth. They cost us more money than we made due to them always changing colors, sizes, adding to the order and changing, adding or subtracting shipping locations when that weeks campaign was already printed, cut, boxed and about ready to ship. After they were out of our lives, we made more “net profit” on 1.2 million in less sales. That meant we were spending prifits from our other customers / jobs to support the loses on the Walmart account. They were bullies. So this lesson also applies to our now small business.
Be nice, be polite but try not to be hussled, bullied, pushed around or manipulated. That just creates stress. That is why we have SOP – Standard Operating Procedures for most situation, even as small as we are now.

I got $20 that says the buyer never even looked at the other photos.
Technically you are right and they are wrong. The buyer did not review all the photos & description and they didn’t ask for clarification. But as others have said, it’s a $5 item you had listed a loooonnngg time. Maybe its best to simply say “Sorry for the confusion. I see how that first photograph could be misinterpreted. I’ve refunded your money. Feel free to keep the plate.”
Do that promptly and you might at least get a glowing positive feedback for your effort. You’ll feel good knowing you treated a customer the way you’d like to be treated as well.
I know those self-back pats and self high fives when I do an above/beyond Customer service job feel good to me. 🙂

Thanks, all, for the input. Retro, I agree, that’s why I took responsibility for having it as first photo in the listing. But who only looks at one photo? Seriously? Sheesh.
Sigh… Kids today…
