It seems to take me forever to create listings and I would be interested to know how long other people take to list.
Assume you are listing a batch of random items that you haven’t listed before. What is the average time you spend on each listing. Including time spent taking photos and researching pricing, competition etc?
I would also appreciate any advice on streamlining the process. At the moment my process is as follows:
1) Create a batch of draft listings on my computer, I just include a brief title at this stage.
2) Add photos to the listing using the mobile app.
3) Go back to my computer to research the item, decide on pricing and write the listing.
Thanks -

You may want to consider eliminating a step, by writing the complete listing out in the beginning including shipping, pricing etc. This way you won’t have to revisit the details in your mind again.
Then after taking the photos, you can just hit list.

I combine steps (1) and (3) because I’ve learned that I can use the research to create my titles. Also, if the item turns out to be worthless (as in, sell it for $5) I don’t waste time taking photos and packing it up into storage. So I choose a group of 10 items, research them to create titles and a price, create my draft with that info. Then photograph. Return to the listing for final check (sometimes new faults show up on the camera that I didn’t catch when creating the draft) and add in shipping weight and dimensios.

Based in advice we received here, this is our process:
–create Scheduled Listings on the computer.
–Use the eBay Mobile app to take/upload photos of 20 items.
–Then fill in the listing on the computer and list the item.We like to take photos first because it’ll help create the listing by showing us any damage, flaws, or details.

I echo what Amatino and So Cal said. After I add photos in the mobile app, I just quickly review for mistakes and make it live. In my iPhone I’m unable to upload photos directly to the listing, so they all get saved. I’m waiting for the 8 to upgrade. Personally, I don’t like to review my listings on the iPhone or do much typing since it’s so much faster on the keyboard.
I spend hardly any time typing the listings and my narrative is very, very short, but I feel a bit self conscious that I am slow. I’m working with a big backlog, so I always choose items that are virtually identical as something I already have listed so I can sell similar. If I have none of that I work on a bunch of very similar items (type, weight, size) from my backlog on the same day or week. I have it all sorted and kind of want to time myself.
As I go along the learning curve, I’m learning some items are my favorites and faster to clean up, list & ship. I like to sell art & art pottery but it can really slow me down on the research. I love to sell embroidery kits – everything about it is quick and most do ok.

Many thanks for the responses, it is useful to hear how other people are doing things. I think I need to mix up the order, and see what works best for me.
Thanks again! -

Question for Jay – Keymaster – Location: Virginia….
Hi Jay. Based on your actual real life routine and not only what’s been discussed in this thread, what is your process to list in the most efficient manner? Based on your response, it seems that your first step is indeed taking and uploading photos first so that they are available for review and uploading into the listing. Can you share what your steps two, three, etc are so as to get a snapshot from which I can create a process for myself that I can tweak for my listing sessions. Thank you in advance!-

Sure, I basically did the system in the first post. But I’ll expand in detail:
–create Scheduled Listings on the computer.
–Use the eBay Mobile app to take/upload photos for the item.
–Write a generalized title and some description on the phone before saving the listing.
–Do this same thing for 15-20 similar items.
–Now I go on the laptop and fill in the specifics of each items including an exact title, measurements, flaws, etc.
–Items are published and ready to be purchased.
