I’m sure there has been discussion about this but I’m having trouble locating it. I have been checking the “growth” tab on my selling home page, and there are a number of my items (like 90%) that say they have “100% less” chance of selling than that of competitors’. When I look at the items individually, there are statistics presented that compare traffic, but rarely anything else. We check our prices often and I know that some, though surely not all, are competitive. In fact, sometimes our is the lowest price. So I’m not sure what eBay wants me to do, other than maybe offer free shipping (which we don’t do often).
Does anyone look at this? Make changes? Or is it just a Beta testing feature that doesn’t really mean anything? Is it worth it to take the time to make changes? We end and re-list a small number daily and that seems to help our sales, so things are not sitting for more than 60 days or so without something being done anyway (our store is under 800 items so manageable at this point).
Thanks in advance for the advice/opinions! I appreciate that I can ask questions here without being made to feel like an idiot. :0)

I’ve looked at the Growth tab and seen the some uneven info you mention. Especially with our vintage and offbeat items, I think eBay just get confused how to compare. I really think this functionality is aimed at people selling commodity items.

This is still in the beta stage. I sell new and used items and both types get flagged as underperforming. I find this functionality unhelpful so far. Ebay just uses it to encourage me to add free shipping on my items even if they are priced lower than the comparison sales they are showing. Often, they send me comparisons of all of my own sales of a similar item, and then say I have a 100% less chance than myself of selling that item in an identical listing (even if the remaining item is priced lower). However, if they have an item randomly flagged with recommendations, I always tweak the item slightly – change lead photo, up the price, title words, etc. – just in case it matters to them. I use the filter button for items with recommendations only. Recently they added the traffic stats for the entire category vs your item. I might consider reviewing that data and doing some tweaking since they have labeled it underperforming. It would be more useful if they offered a list of items missing specifics – like after they add additional ones and you have old listings with blanks.

I’m so glad someone else asked this. I’ve been so confused! ChristineR, you made me laugh. I guess you really need to up your game against yourself! LOL

ChristineR, too funny… competing against yourself. I don’t see a way to filter items with recommendations only, and when I go into a specific listing most of them have traffic information only (no info on prices or trends). Probably this will all change in time anyway.
Thanks for the responses, y’all!!

Mp I think they just updated it very recently. I don’t see that slider tab for recommendations. Here’s a visual of myself beating myself up: https://www.pinterest.com/pin/343399540327167003/
This part is a bit more helpful, depending maybe on how big the category is: https://s-media-cache-ak0.pinimg.com/originals/4a/6f/36/4a6f360a24cd2e6d429a98abd4bb375d.png I’ve already lowered the price on this item a couple of times.
I suspect that these listings identified as underperforming are getting beat up a bit in search, but it would be nice to know if tinkering was worth it for sure. I don’t have time to sell similar every 30 days, even with a small store. On the other hand, this particular item is getting good impressions and similar page views vs. the category. -

It does look like that item is getting some views; I guess it’s listed as “underperforming” because of the sales conversion rate? I agree that it would be nice to know definitively if the tinkering we do, and various strategies we THINK help out at times, really makes
a difference. I guess we just continually tinker! :0) -

I think the click-through and conversion rates may have something to do with it. I find some of the best and most comprehensive information to be in the Seller’s Hub under the Performance tab. More specifically, under Traffic. Make sure to scroll to see all of the information available. You may also want to check the keywords and keyword phrases for your main and category pages.

You’re right, that is better information. Ugh, have some listings with zero click through rate that I have not ended. Wasted space and I’m nearing my subscription limit. It’s interesting to see what’s trolling at the bottom. Some are maybe price related, many are out of season, but there are some similar items from the same brand or category. Like vintage wrapping paper is not doing well, Pimpernel drink coasters. I would love to check vs. solds on Etsy.

With the subscription limit, even if you end the listings that are not moving, my understanding is that they are still counted against the subscription monthly limit because they were listed. Just a thought, might there be a benefit in maybe looking at what key words are used in the title line of each item? or might it be of benefit to put those items on sale which may lead to conversions allowing those slots to become useable when the new listing month comes up? Another thought is might it help to take a look at the key words and key word phrases you have noted for your main homepage and your category pages – especially the keywords noted for the categories those items are under?
Checking on Etsy is a great idea.
