I’m trying this again – my first submission was deleted after I edited it. Hopefully, this one sticks.
I recently purchased a set of vintage golf clubs & bag for $15 at an estate auction. I’m not very knowledgable about clubs, but I purchased them because I remember hearing on SL that woods actually made from wood will sell. This set has two (but metal shafts).
I did find a for-sale listing on Etsy for 4 irons and a putter for $129. eBay has a couple of single clubs for $18.50 to $25 on sale. No solds. I did find some solds on Atlantic golf bags for $39 and up.
I already pulled out two vintage fishing rods that happened to be in there to sell separately, but I’m not sure how to divide up the rest. I’d like some advice.
Most of the golf clubs are Joe Turnesa Signature by Par-Bilt. They are from the 50’s or 60’s. All items have wear consistent with age. I did clean them up, but they show moderate to significant use. Here are some general photos:
http://imgur.com/a/UyWWiI could sell it all together, sell each separately, or group them up into a few listings. Can someone suggest how they would group or divide it up? Here is a list of what I have:
Atlantic golf bag, blue & white, I believe leather
Wood marked #1
Wood marked #3, (about an inch or two shorter than the #1 above)
Iron marked #3
Iron marked #5
Iron marked #6
Iron marked #7
Iron marked #7, marked “Autograph Model; Custom Made” & “Chandler-Harper”, no mention of Turnesa, about an inch longer than the other $7 above
Putter, not marked with Par-Bilt or any words, but it has four stars at the top, it does have the same look/style as the others
One club, I think a putter, that is different than the others with a different handle and metal color
An unopened bag of vintage wood tees
Four partially filled out golf score sheets from two different NY golf courses, plus one unfilled. Dates from 1968, 1974, 1976 -

Can’t help you with the golf stuff, but just wanted to say I love Lilu and Hops!

I’m not much of an expert on golf clubs, but I would sell them in groups. All the woods one group, all the irons one group, all the wedges one group. I think the only clubs that are worth selling separate are drivers and putters.
You should double check listings though since you never know if you stumbled upon a rare gem of a club.
Selling in groups also saves on shipping costs.

I’m not a golf club expert either, but I do know that it’s important to find the right brand.
When I search for this brand, I don’t see much. These could just be old golf clubs that no one wants that you see in the back of every thrift store. I’d really do a deep dive to see if that brand is sought after.

I don’t remember exactly the comments regarding which clubs to purchase. Most likely they were referring to clubs with wood shafts, which are older vintage clubs.
Older clubs are plentiful and fairy expensive to ship. Unless you have something special, you may want to put them on Craigslist or list them as Pickup Only on Ebay.
I’ve had luck selling just the heads, but obviously they are much cheaper to ship and a bit more specialized.
Good Luck

Amatino – Lilu & Hops are lovely cats. Lilu is a calico just like Steve Shultz’s cat, but smaller. They are interested in my work – particularly the boxes!
Gompers – What you are saying makes sense. I might separate out the custom made club (iron #7), since it is a bit different. I’ll need to do some more research on the green club since it is unmarked. I assume it isn’t particularly valuable, but I don’t know.
Jay – I did do some research, and I don’t think that the brand is a big deal. Joe Turnesa and several of his brothers were well known golfers at the time, so maybe that will help and maybe not. I did find that one of the fishing rods that happened to be in the bag was a good brand and model, so that will at least pay for the purchase and provide some profit if only those sell.
