My interesting items from last week:
I bought this wood & brass barometer at an online auction September of last year. I didn’t list it right away because I didn’t think it was working. I finally did some research and figured out how to calibrate it. It works! The buyer asked if I could get the shipping cost down, so I said that it would fit in a medium flat rate box. WRONG. Deoxit 5 but any contact cleaner will work.
It’s best to get behind the potentiometer and spray it into the hole of the body then work the control back and forth a number of times.

Not a bad week of sales! Here are some of the interesting highlights…
I’ll start off with my big sale of the week. I picked this K R Wilson Cylinder Engine Sleeve tool set up on a whim at an auction for $35 because it looked interesting and, more importantly, specialized. The box was in bad shape, but the tools themselves were surprisingly in good condition for their age. A little bit of polish and oil and they were almost as good as new. On the other end of the spectrum is this Tack Kee & Co Jasmine Tea Tin I picked up in a box lot. It was in very poor condition with rust and damage. I just about threw it out, but I saw that there was some collectable interest in that brand so I decided to list it at a reasonable price. Paid approximately $5 (the box lot cost me $60 but there were some good stuff in there) and I sold it for $15 to a tea shop in NYC. This was a fantastic sale to wake up to. At a farmhouse auction, I purchased the contents of an entire closet for $25. Didn’t get much sellable out of it except a few odds and ends and this National School of Meat Cutting Home Study Book from 1960. The outer binder was a bit dirty but the insides were pristine. This was somewhat of a unique item without a whole lot of info or sold prices to compare it to, so I listed it really high and planned on taking whatever best offer I felt comfortable with. Finally, here’s a little sale that surprised me. I bought a box of art supplies mainly for a set of vtg tubes of oil paints. They of course sold right away. Out of that box were these Magic Markers from the ‘80s that looked unused. I don’t remember what cohorst me to set the price for $20 but they finally sold! It’s nice to know that there’s always a buyer out there for anything. Magic Markers
Doublythumbs: I saw a tool set like that for sale recently and didn’t have a clue what it was for, neither did the person selling it …. dang, wish I’d bought it. But congrats to you!
I didn’t have a clue either when I bought it, but the price was right and I took a chance. I’ve been experimenting with old tools lately and they’re either hit or miss. The one thing I’ve learned so far is that the more unique the tool, the higher you can sell for (which I guess you could say for just about anything really). I’ve learned to stay away from basic stuff like wrenches and hammers, though certain brands like Snap-On you should buy no matter what tool it is. But yes, I was REALLY happy when I looked up the value of this set after I got home and saw that it was a score!

I had super bad luck with a big set of Taylor Smith vintage china I got for only $20, real pretty pattern, no others out there for sale, so figured I could sell the serving pieces and make my money back and probably donate the little stuff or lot them. But not a single thing sold, so I finally donated it all to charity. But the old Spode looks like they sell well.
And oh those poor doggies! We had a late snow fall March 3rd (late for us in the Seattle area), and my kitties sat in the window saying “WE WANT GLOBAL WARMING BACK!!!”

Madera County, California History Book cost $4 sold for $45
A US Geological Survey map of Grand Teton Park. USGS maps normally go for about a dollar or less at estate sales. I normally get about $15-$20 for them but this one was double sided and larger than normal and went for $34.95 plus shipping.
Some average 1980s wallpaper. The two rolls cost me $3.20 and went for $29.59 plus $14.31 shipping.
Golf club towel, I paid about $1 for it and finally took a best offer of $15 after an extended back and forth. I was happy to sell it since I first listed it in August 2015.
Two Reed & Barton Royal Bamboo Dinner Forks for a total of $12. Not a big sale, but I bought a lot of 57 Royal Bamboo flatware pieces for $5, so the return should be nice.
Fancy chain for hanging lamps, plants, etc. I probably priced this too low, but I was happy with the $54.95 I got for it since I only paid $2.00 for it.
Steve mentioned a Kodak cable release. I lucked into this one for a Polaroid Land Camera, it sold for $30 and went GSP to Australia. Cost less than $1.
c1950s Zippo Lighter Empty Box
Recently bought this at a sale. There was a modern Zippo in the box, mismatched. Listed them separately and this empty box sold for $31. The Zippo is still listed.
Vintage Givenchy L’Interdit Perfume Empty Bottle
I’ve scored with empty perfume bottles in the past, especially high end brands like this. Bought this and another empty bottle at a sale for $5. The other one sold for over $100 because it was Baccarat crystal. This was a lower end bottle, ended up selling for $20.
2001 Cartier Watch Instructions
Incredibly expensive watches, but they were missing from a sale. Took a chance on two sets of these booklets for $5 each. Took a while, but this one sold for $30 best offer. Did this one sell because it was stamped as purchased at Trump Tower? (the other one was from Saks Fifth Avenue)
1990s Tommy Hilfiger Long Sleeve Box Logo T-Shirt
Only because of this show do I know about RN numbers. Found this and did some quick field research before checking out and the RN number showed it was true early 1990s vintage. Paid up for it at $10, but sold rather quickly for $75 full price. Buyer also paid $35 for express shipping to TX. Hope they enjoy it!
I had some great thrift store finds in the last 2 weeks–I don’t share what I sell on ebay (not much anymore anyway, LOL) but I bought a bag of flatware at a Savers/Value Village last week for which I paid $6 for, got it home and found several pieces of sterling in it–sold most of it for a total of $95.
Then there was this Goodwill find–>paid $6 on these stools, sold today for $325!

One note on those Polar Care / cold therapy units. I had done well with those in the past but I’ve stopped buying them because last year I got a message from eBay that one of my listings for one of those (a different brand) had been removed. It turns out that those units actually require a doctor’s prescription. I did some research to confirm that it’s true. I’ve decided I don’t want to get my account suspended so I’m going to avoid them for now. Side note: The listing that eBay “removed” was for an item that had actually sold a couple of months prior.
