I’ve heard Jay say that they don’t worry about low or zero feedback buyers – they just ship it out, and that’s what we have always done. I’m just wondering if there’s anything extra I should be doing when the item is over $1000, and the buyer has 0 feedback. We only have $5 invested, but the potential for loss has got me possibly over-thinking this sale. Appreciate any input you guys might have. Thanks, Cindy in KY

For something with a high value like that I would require adult signature confirmation and purchase shipping insurance. I have only sold a few high dollar items on ebay that is what I did.
If this item is something that usually attracts scammers such as high priced apple products or high priced cell phones I would be very suspicions.
I would also type in the address in google maps and make sure the address if valid. I would also drill down on google maps to see if the address is a house, business, school, etc. IF the address doesn’t make sense or doesn’t exist I would cancel the sale. If it sold once it will sell again.

Yes, trying to sell $1000 item would give me pause to any seller on eBay. Electronics especially seem to bring out the bad actors.
What item did you buy for $5 that will sell for $1000?
As Gompers said, requiring signature conformation and getting insurance covers all your bases.

Don’t bother with signature confirmation. Delivery confirmation will suffice. Make sure the package is scanned immediately. Sometimes packages don’t get scanned until they reach their destination. Buy insurance for your piece of mind. Only buy what you feel uncomfortable about losing. And try not to focus on what you’re selling it for, only what you paid. Makes the decision making process a whole lot easier.

It’s a pair of vintage “Big E” Levi’s. We haven’t sold them yet. The offer was $900, and we countered with $1375. Found them at Goodwill mixed in with a stack of other pants from the 50’s & 60’s.
Thanks for the input. I really appreciate it.

In general Big E buyers are pretty solid, zero feedback may only mean that the buyer used a “guest account.” I would require buyer signature, although if they are going overseas I might pay for a better shipping class such as express over priority. I sold a couple of years ago, some very expensive slides to Hong Kong–one package went for something like $700 and the other almost $500, I sent one with priority and the other express (insured both of course) and both reached the buyer with no problems. I wouldn’t worry about this, as I’ve said, buyers of vintage denim are very keen and by and large, this is not a big scam category.

Thanks Omfug. The offer stated the seller was in Ohio. Glad to hear that you haven’t run across scammers in vintage denim. We sell a lot of 80’s & 90’s denim, but this is our first foray into “Big E” territory.;-)

I request signature for anything over $200, but I’m a newbie chicken! LOL. I know that the delivery confirmation is supposed to be enough, but folks could claim it was dropped off on their porch and they didn’t get it or similar. The last time I used sig required, I watched the tracking info and, as soon as it was available for pick up, I messaged my buyer that it was waiting for them. They collected, no issues. I also sent an email before shipping to tell them I was sending it sig required for THEIR protection, to ensure it got to THEM safely.

I said this in another thread, but just a reminder that if you purchase insurance of $500 or greater signature confirmation is MANDATORY per USPS regs.
Also, if it were me I would drop off a high value package at the Post Office and get a receipt.
The receipt will have the date, weight, zip code, and city on it. This way if something comes up and the package is returned you will have proof of the weight at the minimum.Package weights are NOT tracked thru the USPS system as they move around.
