I may be looking for a roommate in the near future, something I haven’t experienced in a long time.
I’m wondering if roommates.com is a good place to start, or if anyone has a better idea.
I’m not on Facebook, but I suppose I could be if that was the answer.
For what it’s worth I own the house. The other person would have full kitchen rights etc.
Thanks..

What part of SD are you in? If its a tourist part, you could rent out a bedroom to people just visiting. You’d get more money and wouldnt have a permanent roommate.

yeah, if you can do Airbnb, that’s where you make the money. just look at the map on airbnb and see what other people are renting for.

Thanks for the responses.
I wasn’t thinking Airbnb. I’ve listened to your other podcast, so I’m aware of what you guys are up to. Now I’m thinking, I should give it more consideration.
I actually live just south of Los Angeles, 1 mile from the airport, 2 miles from a major university and 3 miles from the beach. The location is very good for a short term rental.
The issue is more on the house I live in. It is older and dated. The kitchen and bathroom are somewhat worn, but fine for me and everything works.
What are the expectations of the people who stay. I understand it should be clean and safe.
I know this is probable more suitable for your other site, but the forums are just so much more convenient than a blog.
I can rent out one room and possibly two. It’s a two bedroom house, which means I would have to be creative, but isn’t that was being a scavenger is all about.
Thanks

People on Airbnb have different expectations, as long as you’re honest about what they’re get.
I would go on Airbnb and look at what’s available in your area. If you aim for the owner end, you’ll attract younger people wanting places to sleep while they enjoy the area. I think you said you were a contractor? You could do simply improvements so you could charge more.

I wish I was a contractor…. I do not have those skills and right now do not have the funds.
I’ve been looking around and $50 to $60 a night is not out of the question for my area. Most places don’t have open dates until next week, so that’s a good sign.
I’m going to explore this option some more.
Ebay is not generating the income I had hoped for yet. I signed up for Lyft and tried it out. For the time involved it just makes no sense for me. Too many $3.50 rides.
Thanks again… JOE

This won’t solve your problem, but it gave me an idea.
I think I will create a dating web site
like https://www.farmersonly.com/*BUT* .. it will be for eBay sellers only
🙂
I’m not kidding!!!!!!!!!

I would also recommend Airbnb. My roommates and I did it in Richmond,Va and we loved it. We could have gotten another roommate for 400$ per month but instead we made about 1000$ a month just renting out our room. It was fun and a great way to meet new people and save some money! If you’re willing to put in a little cleaning time each week between guests and like meeting new people I’d say its a great option.:)

Advertize on the internet for someone to sleep in your home every night? What could possibly go wrong with that? I would definitely require a separate entrance/room.
