I had a feeling this sale might not go well. One feedback and a generous offer for double the plants. I took it, and mailed immediately. Two-day transit down south, no snow, good weather and as soon as it hits his door, I get an email that the plants are all dead with fuzzy photos as proof. They were all well rooted, so should perk up when planted. I asked if he would plant them and wait a week. No response yet. Anything else I should consider? He hasn’t asked for a refund, just said they were all dead, all 20, which I find hard to believe. TIA.

This may be the first and last time that I sell aquarium plants. I have another aquarium plant auction up, but may take it down. Too bad because I end up with a lot of clippings every few months. Local market was flat for aquarium plant resale, and ebay was the only venue.

If this is your first time shipping these plants, it’s difficult to say if there was an issue in the shipping.
If you choose to keep selling these, you might want to do an experiment and ship some to a friend across the country. See what shape they’re in.
As far as this buyer, wait till they open a case and want a refund. You may have no choice but to refund.

Thanks for your reply, Jay. eBay C.S. looked at the pictures and said they looked alive. I shipped in water, so no way they would die in two days. Told the buyer that they were probably just stressed and to plant them, but that he could initiate a return through eBay. We’ll see. I don’t want to refund the shipping. Two of the plants I shipped are super hardy and will live through very bad conditions.I think I’m being scammed. Customer has one feedback for aquarium items, so I emailed the seller to see if he did this to him as well.

Now he won’t initiate a return and is getting mad that I sent him dead plants. Explained how to initiate a return and advised him to contact eBay for help. He just wants a refund to magically appear. Sigh…bad feedback a definite outcome here. If I had immediately initiated a refund via PayPal, this would have been fine. Too late now.

I wouldn’t fret so much. If an eBay rep said it looked alive, then they are already on your side.
I would go silent until the buyer actually opens a return and starts the process.

Thanks. I ended my other auction. That’s the last time I sell aquarium plants. It was an idea, not a great one, though. No more contact from him, but maybe he’ll figure out the return system.

I will report this customer if he tries to initiate a return. Just heard from a seller who said this customer did the same thing to him. This particular seller has an Aquarium YouTube channel. He said there is no way that these plants could be dead in two days and in water! He sells them quite frequently.
Edit: Reported, so now if he initiates a return, it will be diverted to investigations.

Interesting, the negative feedback he gave me disappeared when I refunded him. Two Ebay reps said that I could do nothing about him lying, even with his pictures that show the plants were alive and healthy. How do you dispute lies about condition?! He’s been reported, though. I’m out priority shipping for 2 pounds. Guess I’ll block him. Hope he enjoys his free plants.

I would definitely be putting some very truthful comments on his youtube channel!

Guy got kicked from ebay!
Is there any way to get this thread deleted. Didn’t realize this was public. Thanks!
