Hey wanted to share this because it has been an issue I have been struggling with for the past couple years since Ebay made some changes some time ago. One of my Ebay stores is a specialty niche type store. I’d say about 50% of my sales are multiple items so combining shipping is a real selling point to my customers. Last I checked, about 40% of my sales is repeat business so I really try and accomodate. Once Ebay prevented customers from combining shipping, my international sales plummetted significantly. However every once in a while a order would pop through combined as one order, and it always left me wondering how did this customer complete checkout with no issues.
Well today a customer contacted me struggling to complete a combined checkout. So I suggested she log out of Ebay’s Canadian platform (ebay.ca) and sign into Ebay.com and try to make the purchase. It worked! Now do I explain this to potential buyers without adding a clause to 1000 listings!
Thought I would share. This community and your podcast and has a wealth of info for the past couple years. I thought I would try and contribute as well.

So I guess this is a good solution for Canadian buyers only?

I don’t know yet, but hoping this will work switching over from any international Ebay platform over to the US site.

What’s the issue with international buyers combining shipping? Is this when you use the Global Shipping Program?

the global shipping program doesn’t allow for combined shipping at all. It’s when shipping first class international, priority international etc.

What is the issue exactly?

Offering combined shipping to your international customers can be tricky. Someone mentioned global shippping where combined shipping is not an option. However, from what I have been able to gather; combined shipping internationally across two different Ebay platforms; for example a customer in Canada signed into ebay.ca can not request combined shipping to a seller on the ebay.com platform.
Today I figured a work around by working with my customer to log out of ebay.ca and log into ebay.com.
I hope I am making sense with my explantion.

This video shows you how to add a metatag to your listings in a bulk edit.

Would this work for you to bulk edit your listings with this information?

Thank you for this advice! I also have a niche store that has a lot of repeat customers & multiple item orders, many of which are international. I do not offer the Global Shipping Program for any items in the store.
I had a customer last week in the UK attempt to purchase 2 items. They asked about combined shipping, and I said they could ship for the same rate as 1. I asked for them to send a request for invoice prior to paying with Paypal in order to get the right shipping reflected before paying. They said they were not able to do so on their end.
They had clicked buy it now for both items. They were not just sitting in their shopping cart, waiting to pay for both items + both shipping rates. The Ebay system would just not allow them to buy both at the same time. I wasn’t sure if it was a glitch or if they were making a mistake somehow purchasing. They ended up buying both items individually, paying shipping twice. I had to go into Paypal to refund shipping for 1 item. It ended up working out, but it was really a hassle that Ebay wouldn’t allow the order to go through the way it should.
I will recommend this solution the next time it happens. Thank you!

I’m glad I could help out. I have no idea why Ebay took that combined shipping function away. I lost quite a bit of money when they did that. My niche store has a lot of small low cost items; and many customer will buy several items which it would make sense for international customers since shipping is expensive.
Just today I had a UK customer run into the combined shipping issue. I walked them through switching platforms and the sale came through and were very grateful.
I wonder how many sales I’m losing from people not willing to ask the question. You would think Ebay would make this clear potential buyers.

I am happy to report that this method has now worked for a Canadian customer, a UK customer and an Australlian customer.
