My father was an aviation artist and has many pieces in museums and aviation companies across the world. This is THE original piece that the famous WWII Ace Gen. Robert Lee Scott signed himself.
General Scott was the author of “God is my Co-Pilot”.
Brigadier General Robert Lee Scott Jr. (12 April 1908 – 27 February 2006) was a brigadier general in the United States Air Force. He is best known for his autobiography “God is My Co-Pilot” about his life in World War II with the Flying Tigers and the United States Army Air Forces in China and Burma. The book was eventually made into a film of the same name.
My opinion is that this is a true collector’s piece and should be somewhere with other aviation historical pieces or with a true collector. I have proof of authenticity of Scott and my Dad with the painting in photos and also a letter he sent my Dad when he signed it.
Any and all help is greatly appreciated

Don’t know if its right or wrong but I’d do a BIN with BO and price it really high. Then let it sit and keep reducing it every 30 days.
If that fails I’d do an auction with the same tactic.
I am in no way an art expert (not even close) , but if you are patient I bet that would sell pretty high.
As you know that piece would appeal to a multitude of people – not just art types.

Mezz, thanks for your reply. I am also by no means an art dealer. I am hoping that someone on this board will maybe see this and forward it around to networks though. Question: When you say list it high? Where would you start? I have it listed at 15k now. But, I can relist it a different price on the 1st.
Thanks for your reply today

I’m not an art dealer by any means. If you have it listed at 15K I think that is a good starting point. I don’t know that I would automatically reduce the price every 30 days. Why? You aren’t going to get a serious collector on day one, in fact it may take months to find a following and finally someone willing to pay up for an original. Be patient and check your traffic every month. If you check and you have had 10 views chances are that your serious buyer hasn’t found you yet. Why should you automatically reduce the price? Be patient. The right buyer is out there and it will take a while for them to find you.
A high priced item like this is sort of like a thrift store with a famous painting and asking a high price based on ebay listings. They are going to have to wait for the right buyer who knows the quality and is willing to pay up for it. You can believe that GW wouldn’t lower their price automatically every 30 days. They would wait for maximum profit.
You have a great piece that will appeal to a multitude of collectors and at 15K they are getting a good deal.-
