What Sells On eBay: Lee jeans, Girl Scout items, Hansa Branta Eskimo parka, Stereo viewer, Polaroid camera

I don’t think I’ve ever heard of Hansa Branta, but I will keep an eye out for that brand!

I had a rather boring week of low cost items, but here are a few with mildly interesting backstories:

This sugar and creamer was part of a box lot. It cost about $1.25 and sold for $28 (which was my highest sale this week). The buyer was looking to increase his set in this pattern and wanted to know if I had anything else. Unfortunately, this was the only one I had.

I bought about 15 upholstery remnants at an estate sale last summer, and none have sold until now. I sold another on Sunday, so maybe people start planning their projects in the winter.

This is an enamel over metal lid from a box lot. Lids do sell, but this one for not much. The buyer asked me for better dimensions before buying. They gave me positive feedback, so it must have fit! I actually didn’t pay anything for the box lot. There had been some confusion in the auction, and I didn’t realize that I hadn’t been charged until a few days later when I looked closer at the receipt. I was supposed to pay $2.50 for the whole lot, so no big deal.

I picked up 8 IBM typewriter tapes from the University surplus shop for $5. Buyer contacted me asking if I would make a deal if he bought all 8. Sold for $58 +shipping in just a few weeks. I had a meeting in the building next door so I took like 20 min to walk around. This Anchor Hocking wire bail mason jar was one of my early purchases before I realized glass items are not the best items. Bought these at a sale for like $3. They were in a pretty cool old box that I actually already sold on it’s own for $50. The chips then sold on clearance sale for $30.

Very cool flea market find. Paid $5 just because I knew it was 1960s based on the style of the Mets logo. After research and noticing that it was made in Hong Kong (instead of China, Vietnam, etc) that confirmed my suspicions. Sold for full price, $100.

Another old ball, outdated electronic accessory. This converts 8 track players to cassette players. After research, looks like people use them in their cars. In my head, the guy that bought it has a classic 1960s/70s muscle car and wanted to throw in his Molly Hatchet cassette and cruise the strip. Paid $3, sold for $30.

I had another slow week in sales. But I’ve been listing like a fiend so hopefully that’ll spark something soon. Here’s a few of my notable sales.

My big sale of the week was for a Fischer Budapest bowl. I mentioned these before in another thread. I personally think they’re ugly as hell, but I can pick them out in a lineup so easily. And they sell extremely well. I grabbed this from a buyer’s choice table at an auction for $5. I listed it Sunday and it sold overnight for BO of $150, though it’s been a couple of days and the buyer still hasn’t paid. I’m not worried though. I know it’ll sell again if he doesn’t.

Sold an old 1961 Sears catalog for $20. It came in a box lot that I thought I overpaid for, but I’ve since turned into a nice little profit. This particular catalog came out to cost me $10. I’m going to keep an eye out for these older shopping catalogs. Some of them sell for big bucks.

I’ve been experimenting with tin containers lately. I’ve seen them at auctions and I’ll pick up a box of them for a few dollars. They’re really easy to list and take photos of. And they usually tend to sell after a month or two. This 1980’s Uncle Ben’s rice tin sold for $15. It probably cost me ten or twenty cents.

Finally, another item that sold within a day was a cast metal eagle. The weird thing was, there were a bunch of them up on eBay already and I priced mine about the same, if not higher than everyone else. It sold to what I think is a shipping company in CA. Packing it was a pain. I had to go out and find a box to fit it. And I messed up on the listing weight so it cost me an extra $6.00 to ship. I really need to learn to weigh my items before listing them instead of guessing.

Advertising tins can be quite valuable or quite a dud, I’ve found. I always pick them up too if cheap, research them, list the good ones/donate the bad ones.

Also love that metal eagle – I’ve had a few and yes, packing is a pain because they’re so heavy and often times have sharp edges to worry about.

Vintage Real Egg Diorama Ornaments – Definitely not my thing, but I ended up with them in a box lot and was delighted to accept a $45 offer for them after 1 day listed. The same buyer also bought some other egg ornaments that I had listed separately for $18.

I had a very good sale today that I need to brag about. Several months ago I purchased a vintage Boy Scout uniform circa mid-century from an estate sale. I believe I paid either $1 or $4 for it. It hung in my eBay room for awhile and tired of looking at it, I finally listed it today in two lots: the shirt, pants and order of the arrow sash listed in one lot and the neckerchief with patch in a 2nd lot. The neckerchief with patch sold within a few hours for $199.99! When researching I found a similar patch listed for $380 but it wasn’t sold and I thought that was a pipe dream. I considered listing as an auction but I’m too impatient for those to end so I listed for what I thought was kind of a ridiculous amount and it sold. The buyer has paid and messenged asking if I have any other items from that troop. Hopefully, I’ll find some more at future local estate sales!
