After a few weeks of not finding much outside of the usual inventory for my card consignment business, I was able to add a few weird items to the piles this week.
This lot of 6 1970s wargaming/RPG magazines cost me about $15, but each magazine net me about $10 and I love photographing weird niche items like this. This seller is quickly becoming one of my favorites to check each week because they run auctions pretty much daily which are a 50/50 mix between the types of modern cards that I like to buy and sell and other weird collectibles items. I can go through their listings more quickly than a seller who does all cards since some days, everything listed is a skip. But even then, there is usually some odd item that I will at least research. Plus their combined shipping rates are great! So I’m learning, doing my normal work and making a little extra profit on most of the stuff I buy.
I knew I got a good deal on this authenticated signature of Roy Clark when the CSR for this mega-huge consignment seller who sent me a combined shipping invoice also included a message congratulating me on what a great deal I got. It was almost weird to be reminded that there are real humans (lots of them) working as a team these mega sellers, since a lot of them have messages set up where you receive an auto reply or the rep who messages you back is copy/pasting from an obvious script. I just sold an autograph related to Hee Haw this past week, so I hope that means this one will sell quickly, too. I would have probably sent this signed photo to sell on consignment before that message, so thanks for the heads-up, dcsports CSR. You rock!
My favorite cards this week were five or six 2012 Topps general manager autographs, all in the $3 to $8 range. The GM is the manager’s manager, basically each team’s figurehead who does all the signings and tradings of the players, and they are cult figures in every sport since there is so much money in sports now. But especially a cult figure in baseball. I love obscure niche autograph sets as much as I love any other type of ultra-modern sports card, and I’m confident these will sell pretty quickly in the $10 to $20 range with by adding the team name to the title and giving it a few months into the baseball season. There are still quite a few true card collectors out there who will go after all the cards of a certain player, or all cards of their favorite team, and those buyers will love a card like this.
What did you find this week?

I haven’t been scavenging since the fall since my goal is to reduce my inventory and hold an online auction. However, while going through my bins, I’m pulling out items that are not listed in my store. Most I’m just throwing in the auction anyway, but there are a few that I’ve decided to put aside and list after the auction.
I have two candle holders that hold three thin candles each. I think that I put off listing them because I wanted to find candles that fit, but I think forgot and threw them in a bin. I did not use Google lens when I first researched them, but now I see that they are Blenko ice candle holders. I should get about $40 or so. They are similar to this one (which was $20, but I have two and the one I have uses thinner candles):

I also found a Starbucks Washington DC mug that will sell for about $20. I think I bought it last summer, so maybe I just forgot to list it.
I found a lamp that I grabbed years ago from in front of someone’s home. The lamp didn’t work, so I took it apart to list just the base. I might have had concerns about listing it because it shows a topless woman. It is art, nothing raunchy, so I think it will be fine for eBay. I can also rewire it now because I have the parts.

Another thing I forgot to mention, we bought a new dishwasher recently. The old one has been carted away, but not before my husband removed all the insides for me. I will get at least $70 for each rack. I haven’t priced out the rest yet, but I’m sure I’ll get a few hundred dollars in total. Right now, I just need to clean them up, and then I’ll list them with the others when I’m done with the auction.

I totally did that with my last dishwasher. Made several hundo. I still have a few shelf rollers in inventory that I sell for $10 a pop occasionally. Sold one last week.
I did a washer, dryer and a fridge as well.

I picked up a (presumed) 17th century blanket box for £10 from a charity shop yesterday. Old oak panels, held together with pegs, and with the original wrought-iron hinges. Judging from some auction results I found last night, and the fact that someone cut a round hole in the base and a square hole in the back, it should fetch £5. Not much demand for 300-year-old furniture in these parts!

I’m loving the magazines, Blenko and the trunk sounds amazing.
I wish I had peaked on Ebay during the podcast days but it is nice to check in with you all.
Last week I bought a few brass items from a flea market guy I hadn’t seen before. Nothing from anyone else and the dollar guy wasn’t there.
I went late on the first day to an estate sale at a beautiful home. I bought some vintage frames and books. The rest was a bit over priced and I intentionally avoided getting there at opening since I have so much stuff on hand. https://www.instagram.com/p/DFlF6zwyx3A/?utm_source=ig_web_copy_link&igsh=MzRlODBiNWFlZA== This is a video another local posted. The craftsmanship in these homes is incredible.

Looking forward to this week, I found an amazing antique Chinese dragon embroidery on silk that I need to research for $20.

@christiner Was going to suggest it’s a rank badge, for the bureaucracy, but I just found out there were no dragons in the officials’ menagerie. The number of claws is supposed to be significant.

Maybe something like it does appear in the film.
