These punks lost a 24lb, 30″x30″x18″ package and refused payout. Insane claims process made me question my sanity all the way through.
Won’t waste your time going over all the various pitfalls, but I’d put the entire process at around 2 hours. Invalid case IDs, wrong account numbers, lack of clarity in what details are needed, etc. They did to me this time exactly what they did last time: Despite going through the entire process online, they sent me something in the mail. What’s the letter tell me to do? Well, go online and… FINE. Here’s more info. How’s that? Two weeks later: Claim denied (no reason given.)
I find it funny that “no reason given” is even possible. But it did get me thinking that we should all strive to build businesses where the costs of mistakes are passed back to the person utilizing the service and not ourselves. Frankly, if I were in charge of UPS I’d just have all the packages in a given week tossed in the dumpster to save money on fuel for my private jet. I’d also make the claims process 100x harder and require the person filing the claim to upload videos of themselves doing funny faces. Installed in my office would be a comically large “DENY CLAIM” button that would prompt a mariachi band to burst in and start playing when I press it. Anyway, that’s just how I’d do it.
This is criminal behavior, but it’s one of those things where I’m sure if taken to court UPS would claim all the back and forth communication is 100% necessary. Yeah, right.
Buyer was incredibly accommodating and told me to take as much time as I needed. Paid him out tonight. Can’t imagine how worse this would be with someone breathing down my neck. Don’t even wanna think about it.

Don’t know about the UPS dumpster, but the USPS one is in Atlanta. It’s where your parcel goes if you used those Chinese-made Forever stamps.

Yeah, I went through the exact same thing last time I tried to do a UPS claim. The fact that they had fake claim numbers and fake claims phone numbers just blows my mind.
for my own sanity, I don’t even bother with claims now. I have maybe had 10-15 total in the history of my eBay business. They are very rare thankfully. I just refund and move on with life. I had one a couple months ago, where I shipped a TV.
my net loss was like $50.I also believe that all of the major carriers are blatantly committing fraud and eventually there will be a lawsuit and we’ll all get five dollar payouts. Yay…

It’s a race to the bottom. I came across a roadside “sorting office” in an industrial estate a couple of weeks back. People loading their cars and vans with parcels for delivery, that’d been dropped off in a car park by a lorry. I only use Royal Mail, but that’s in the process of being sold to a Czech oligarch.
Czech’s in the post…

I had a similar experience with UPS and have not offered them as an option since. Took it to the mat and spent a lot of time but never got paid. I’m sticking with Fed Ex (haven’t yet made a claim with them). Though, I think Ebay underestimates Fed Ex shipping at times and some sellers feel that Fed Ex is predatory. I did have a $35 upcharge for shipping a tube and not sure what else. I’m afraid to look. Both are close to my house but the UPS parking lot is a PITA, so Fed Ex wins there as well.

Who did you buy your UPS label through? I’ve had good luck filing UPS claims through Pirate Ship. One was a damaged package that UPS just disposed of and said so on their tracking. Insert mind blowing up emoji!
