I’ve almost completely phased out Fed Ex, but I have some items that still have Fed ex as the main option. I thought this issue had been fixed, but apparently it is not. I had to cancel an order today because the buyer was only charged $24, the label ebay was going to give me was $24, but the ACTUAL Fed Ex label was going to be…$68!!!!! When in doubt, use Shippo to get the actual Fed Ex price. How they can get it right and ebay can’t – who knows!
Avoid Fed Ex and use Pirate ship for all labels USPS and UPS. Pirate ship will have your back in the case of a label cost dispute. Ebay…will not no matter what they say.

oof. I was just watching a well connected Portland vintage reseller and she said they believe Fed Ex engages in predatory repricing. I did have a huge upcharge on a long skinny item this year that I noticed. I haven’t been notified of any other changes and haven’t been paying attention. I had a huge problem with a UPS insurance claim so I have not been using them.
One Christmas a last minute buyer selected Fed Ex and then Ebay would not let me print the label. I was super nice and went to Fed Ex and paid the rack rate which ate my profit on the gift. For a few years after I shut my store down at this time, but I think I will leave it open again this year and get what sales I can. Most people are picking USPS ground and I only have Fed Ex alone on a small handful of large items.

Before I comment anything, I’m just going to say I know how to calculate dimensional weight. Anytime I complain about FedEX or UPS’s postage adjustments someone always comments that its dimensional weight. I know about dimensional weight and I know how and when to calculate it.
I agree about the predatory pricing. I do not trust FedEx or UPS. I fully expect a class action lawsuit against both companies at some point. Of course, we’ll probably each get a check for less than $5 when that happens. The last time I shipped UPS I took a video of me measuring and weighing the box with the postage label and tracking number already attached to it in the event UPS comes back with a postage adjustment. I thought about completely taping a measuring tape to each side of the box so UPS can’t come back and say one size was several inches longer than it actually was.
I found out the hard way that Ebay’s postage calculator is unable to account for packages that incur surcharges. For example, poster tubes. The few times I have to ship UPS or FedEx I use PirateShip since they are able to calculate the surcharges provided I select them in the options.

I had a buyer want something super thin and lightweight but 18″ long for Christmas. Ebay let me pick a Fed Ex express option at a good price and the DIM weight looked ok. They didn’t call it express within Ebay. I think it was a two day option for an envelope. I feel like I will get hosed. They fed Ex guy said they have a special envelope it has to fit in (not mentioned on Ebay). While at Fed Ex he confirmed he can’t make a special note that their employee checked the weight and measurements personally. 🙁 He also confirmed it’s not a good idea to use an unboxed poster tube through them, even though they sell them. I won’t do that again!

Usually, eBay tells you when FedEx charges you extra; however, I found an extra charge on November’s monthly expense report. I would have to call eBay to connect the extra charge to which item, confirm that it wasn’t for a different reason, and then fight the charge (which I probably won’t win). I just don’t have the time and patience.
I just need to remember to use Pirate Ship for now on which means I should remove FedEx as a choice since Pirate Ship only has UPS.

I really should look back on the shipping charges and see what happened with Fed Ex this past year. I think I only had one or two notices. The vast majority is all going Ground Advantage and I don’t sell a ton of larger items, so I’m too lazy to deal with Pirate ship.

eBay felt the pirsteship pinch and FINALLY started passing on the cubic rate discounts to sellers so the difference isn’t as big as it was before. Pirateship is still a bit cheaper than eBay on a lot of labels and that adds up for me since I’m closing in on 2000 labels a year now.
