Almost two months of February in the books — is this year flying by for everyone, or does that feeling mean I’m old all of a sudden?
Mostly scavenged from death piles this week, and found a cool $10 purchase from last month which is now sitting on my desk waiting to be scanned and listed — this 1980s National League stadiums pass which once belonged to sports photographer Bob Langer. I have no idea what something like this is “worth” but I love selling weird sports adjacent items like this.
In that vein, this signed Mike Keenan Florida Panthers practice jacket cost me $50 which looks like a great price compared to this similar Keenan owned signed jacket which went for $200. I’ve found success selling these types of items in the past as long as I don’t go TO THE MOON with the price, so I’ll probably start this one at $199 BIN/BO and see how it goes.
I had some nice bulk card purchases last week. These 1/1 Leaf soccer proofs cost me less than $3 each and are perfect for 40 card flat rate box lots which sell at $6 to $8 per card. I’ll send one or two of the name players to consignment to sell at a higher rate, which should bring my COGS down to around $2 per unit and give me more wiggle room on the bulk lot price. It’s a little bit of a grind but I enjoy the work. Another interesting purchase was these 1960s boxing cards at about $2.50 each. I’ve done well lately with oddball vintage items through consignment, specifically by submitting them to live auctions. I tried to sit through a live auction a month or two ago and only made it about 20 minutes before I got bored, but maybe I’ll give them a try again sometime soon. Worth it to find good inventory for cheap, and reselling changes so fast that it’s always good to try new ways of buying or selling and see what works.
What did you find this week?

I didn’t scavenge anything last week, but today I stopped by Goodwill and bought some shoes, clothes.
The highlights in shoes:
Xero barefoot shoes – $50+
Tony Lama Boots – $100+
Dansko Paisley shoes 2 pair – $50+ each
A pair of vintage Ball Band duck boots. These are a wild card. They are true vintage 50+ years old and in amazing condition. There isn’t alot of info out there on these boots. They could be $50. They could be $150+. There is no comp for these. I’m probably going to put $200 on them and see what happens.

I looked on Terapeak for your ball band duck boots because I got curious what they looked like and you are right, not much info out there at all. And it sounds like your pair are higher quality than anything I could find, too. To the moon!
Those Tony Lama boots must look really neat. I’m a suburban kid and it makes me want to move out to the country. Couple more years of city adjacent living to get out of my system first…

This pair has some model key words that I cannot find anywhere. I think I’ve done about all the research I want to do. They’ll get listed this week with all the keywords and let it ride.

From the $1 guy a pair of kids’ lemon print converse, a pair of ugg boots short, and a pair of Born sandals.
http://www.henryevans.com/poppies.html I found a signed copy of this work this week for $14. I got to the thrift late so a lot of people had passed on it.

Born sandals and kid’s converse in clean minimal wear condition are a quick $20 sale. Put ’em up for $19.99 each and they should sell quick. I have my shoe photography down to a science. It takes me 30 seconds to take the 8-10 pictures needed for shoes. Up to a minute if I have to tie laces for insert toe box support. Feel free to copy my format if you want, but you have a great eye so you can probably come up with something better.
The Ugg bubble has popped. Price those at the lower end of comps to ensure a quicker sale.
Now I’m gonna troll your clothing/shoes section each week to check for these listings so you better get on it! LOL!
Additional note – I see you use alot of copyrighted images as your main photo in your clothing listings. Have you ever received a VERO? I have for smartwool socks so I don’t use them. If I do use them I put it at the end of my photos at least 7 photos deep.
It seems like this is a real conflict for ebay. They want to adopt the amazon model of having a catalog that relies on UPC’s. Many times a stock photo is attached to those catalog listings. BUT, you can get a VERO for using these stock photos. Are you getting the photos directly from Anthropologie’s website or are they in the catalog listing? Be careful either way!

Also, those Hokas are gonna be a hard sell at $95. If you want to move them quicker I’d recommend $59.00 – $69.99. I would take offers down to $50 but I don’t know what your COGS are.
The STR in that size is high but the shoes that are selling in that high STR are between $30-60.

This is one of those “tricks” I have only started to learn recently. But it feels like one of the most important lessons especially for someone moving from part-time to full-time. It’s not that the fast nickel is always better than the slow dime, it’s that sometimes the choice is between a fast nickel and a slow nickel that’s actually a slow penny and you don’t realize it. Sometimes it’s sell it now or the thing is going to sit forever because there’s too much competition and everyone is undercutting each other. That might be a business model that works for some, but not for a scavenger. That’s not our game.

@Retro I paid only $10 for the Hokas. I priced them at the highest end of solds with best offer but you are right I should mark down by now. I know about the uggs – bought a great pair myself for $20.
No Anthro is well aware of resellers buying all of their clearance and I think it helps them out. They have made some things harder to do but have not gone after people for photos. I have only received a VERO from Williams Sonoma before. I usually put in my own photos and add the stock photo later if necessary for seeing a packaged item.

There are still some Uggs worth money but they have to be REALLY special.

https://imgur.com/a/hklhByK. @Retro just thought I’d share this amusing pic from one of our thrift stores. To be fair, this is the only one that rounds color tag sales. But still $58 for used vans? I found some shoes at the flea for $5 today. They were nice brands but had scratching on the leather so I decided to pass.

LOL! In what reality are they living in? That’s nowhere near a realistic price – not even for ebay. Shoot, they aren’t even that expensive in the store with the perma-coupons!
I’ve seen similar in some of the other chains in Columbus. Goodwill tried it here and it seems to have burned out (YAY!)
I can’t wait for spring so I can start picking up nice shoes for $1 at yard sales again.

Also the 25 dollars they’re asking for those white trainers with the splashback stains.
