I skipped my usual monthly auctions this month to focus on building my eBay inventory back up. For a while there, I was at or below 300 items. Since November, I’ve been focused almost entirely on the trading cards niche, specifically on my curated lots organized by team and the consignment site I sell individual cards on. But I got up about 50 new listings over the course of this past week and that led to a steady flow of sales. Surprisingly, in a number of different categories.
This violin instructional DVD is one of the last media finds from my Chicago haul — $37.49 gross/$24.64 net/$2 COGS. I love finding items like these, but they’re almost always one-offs. I would love to find a whole collection of them at some media sale (I’d even travel for it!), but that’s probably like finding a needle in a haystack.
This pair of 1980s RuneQuest tabletop games was another media sale find, from the local county’s fall sale, one which is always picked over by the scanner dorks who still manage to miss interesting oddities every single time. $79.01 gross but shipping and fees gobbled up some of my profit, so my net was $42.05 and my COGS was around $5.
I accepted another $62.50 offer on this Emmitt Smith glass plaque with a piece of his shoe, one of those trading card adjacent items that have become a little small pipeline within my store. This one had sat for a while, so when I got the offer at 60ish percent of my BIN and saw the buyer was not too far from me in the NYC metro area, I decided to take it. Gross $72.89, net $45.52, COGS $15 in September 2021.
In my world of endless piles and boxes and stacks of sports cards and non-sports cards, I’ve tried a little experiment with organized team lots and recently tried a second experiment with larger sized lots, 20 cards, enough to fill one 9×12 padded envelope at a weight of 12 to 14 ounces with cards that are packaged perfectly and well protected. I sold a Baltimore Orioles lot for $57.98 gross/$39.39 net and my COGS was about $10 — maybe $12 at most? And it’s not even baseball season. So I might be on to something here. I’m going to spend some good time this week creating football card lots, since the NFL playoffs start next week, and hopefully some of those listings will appear in next week’s thread.
What did you sell this week?

Last week was very bread and buttery but I’ll find a couple of things I haven’t posted before.
https://www.ebay.com/itm/235351295624 I usually now avoid sourcing used baby stuff. But I got this at the bins and then found some blogger who made it look fresh. Serena and Lily is a great upscale brand to look for.
https://www.ebay.com/itm/335170092169 This is one example of a large lot of push pin ornaments I bought at a garage sale for $10. I divided them up into sets, some pairs and larger lots that made sense. Over half the bag sold and I didn’t get them listed until just before Christmas.
https://www.ebay.com/itm/234971367901 Sale of the week was this little guy I got for free at the flea market and flipped to a local dealer. I’m noticing I needed a manicure.

Skannerz Commander Radica 2001 Handheld Monster Scanning Barcode Toy Lot of 2
Sold for full price. If these weren’t so valuable I would give them to my kids (who would lose/destroy them in 2 days or less). I enjoyed testing them on barcoded items in my office!

West Bend Poppery II Automatic Hot Air Corn Popper Popcorn Vintage
I pulled this from a death pile. Old air poppers always sell quickly to diy coffee roasters. I always pick up old air poppers – BOLO!

ATA Martial Arts Sparring Gear Taekwondo Equipment Duffel Bag Karate Adult Size
I put off listing this one for months. I picked it up at a yard sale this summer along with some Harley riding gear and other misc items. Shame on me for waiting, but I got $160 for it. Paid approx $15 since I paid $50 for a pile of stuff including all the harley gear. The Harley boots alone sold a long time ago and more than paid for the whole lot. Bonus – it all fit me so I got to have a good time testing it all out.

Spyder Ski Bib Snow Board Pants Dermizax-EV Black Pants Size Men’s L
And here was a the second half of the ski set I got for $40 at a yard sale. Sold the coat for $200 so a nice $150 net profit.

Crouse Hinds Mp Style Breaker Lot of 19 20A 30A 40A 60A GFCI Single Double Mix
Now here’s an interesting one. In 2021 my electrical circuit panel took a dump. One of the mains lugs was bad so I lost one leg of the box. I had to replace the entire panel. Since this was an older panel the breakers couldn’t be reused. I was going to toss them, but thought surely someone could put these to use as backups or to do circuit additions to old panels. I thought right. Sold for full price. The best kind of scavenging!

Tommy Bahama Melamine Hobnail Aqua 6″ x 3″ Square Bowls Cereal Pasta Set of 4
Not a big sale but I knew these would sell quickly, are small, and would be easy to ship/ aren’t breakable. Picked up in Columbus at a Goodwill. Sold for full price – paid $4. I’m a sucker for interesting looking items like this – love the color and style! Apparently so do other people.

Speed Racer Mach 5 Helmet Costume Car Race Around Sound
I knew this item wouldn’t last long – took 2 weeks. Sold for full price. Paid $2 at an independent thrift store I go to a couple times a year.

@Retro how do snow clothes do on EBay for kids and adults? We are 3-4 hours from the snow and I do see better brand clothes show up at the thrift stores. I’ve considered picking some of that up in the future. Much of it is in really great condition.

The good stuff always sells Columbia, Spyder, etc. Coats are very spotty just because there are soo many. Bib overalls have always sold good for me in pretty much any brand. When you see it just do some quick searches on the brand in terapeak so you can see the seasonality and STR if you are picking it up off-season.
This summer I picked up a vintage NWT kids snowbobile suit and a vintage men snowmobile suit for FREE at a yard sale. I couldn’t believe they were in a free pile. I saw nothing but huge dollar signs…that blinded me to the GIANT rips in both I saw once I got home. At least they were free!
