My regular auctions (now twice a month) ended last Monday so I have a lot of candidates for sale of the week.
From my Chicago library haul, this out of print Hans Knappertsbusch box set sold for full price of $200, and I have one more at the same price point. My cost was just $20.
In the trading card world, I sold an autograph of Nolan Schanuel, the first player from the 2023 MLB Draft to make it to the majors, for $70. I paid just $9 for it about a month ago. It’s extremely rare for a player to rise from college to the pros in less than a year, but Schanuel’s team (the Angels) have been making desperate moves as they slide further down in the standings. This card was unlicensed (no team logos on the uniform) since it was released before he made the pros, and these types of cards don’t hold value for very long. His first card where he is an Angels uniform (probably released early next year) will be the one everyone covets if he is a good player long-term.
I put another dent into my big pile of autographed military photos last week, and it resulted in a sale of this signed photo of members of the 100th bomb group for $54. My cost was around $12.50. I hope to pick up more of these over the next few months as I’ve enjoyed doing the research on them, and the main consignment seller who I buy these from rarely lists them correctly.
I have had a lot of success with selling books at auction over the last few months, for whatever reason. This vintage chess book was probably my low sale of the week at $6.50 net, but I only paid $1 for it, and this out of print cartoon compilation was my favorite sale of the week at $16.23 net, basically a $15 profit on the nose. I did no research on either, just went with my gut on a $1 purchase, and it’s nice to make a few bucks that way instead of ending up with a pile of stuff to donate.
Finally, in random items I sold this Marilyn Monroe vintage lobby card for $30 after dropping the price slowly over a few months and sending it to auction a few times. My cost was about $10, so nothing amazing. But I have one or two more of these to list, and at least now I have an idea what the price range should be.
What did you sell this week?

On vacation with extended time away and had 30 sales and almost cracked $1k this week. I call that a rousing success!
Here are some of the highlights:

MISS RODEO USA by ACME Red Fringe Boots – Cowboy Boots Size 6.5 M
Sold on $50 offer. This one was notable due to the negotiation at the yard sale. Lady tried to be firm on price at $20 when I offered $10. I inadvertently used the silent treatment to get the price way down to $7 from my initial offer of $10 by bundling with another item. I was actually trying to find a couple loose dollar bills in my pocket and couldn’t find them all while wondering where I may have dropped them. I realized my silence was getting to her so I just leaned into it a while longer. I did find the dollar bills stuck to my wallet so double score!
Never underestimate the silent negotiation. Some people will do anything to make it end.
Ugg…ebay is jacking up looking at sold listings if they are a catalog entry.
Sold for full price $40. I bought this for $7 at a pawn shop I occasionally stop to look at on my lunch break for video games and DVD’s. With the way streaming is going, DVD/Bluray sets are going to see a resurgence. The pipedream of always having access to everything all the time has been burst by Disney and HBO. With the bloodbath of content removals. Disney also announced DVD box sets of multiple Star Wars and Marvel shows which does not bode well for their continued streaming availability.

Denby Blue Jetty Water Rice Bowl 5″ England
Yes you read that right – $50 for a SINGLE rice bowl. I’m well into the profit on this denby stuff and I’ve only sold 3 items!

RCA U1000 Unison 4 Line Corded Telephone with Digital Answering System – Black
Sold for $85 – paid $3 at a yard sale 2 weeks ago. I’ve sold many business phones over the years. They tend to sell fairly quickly. When I picked this one up I assumed it would sell for $30-50 with no research. I was pleasantly surprised to see it sold for MUCH more.

Fisher Price Loving Family Victorian Grand Mansion Dollhouse House Only 2008
I’ve had this listed for a year. This was technically a leftover as I’ve sold off all the dolls/furniture that came with it for a nice profit. It sold for $100 full price. Yay! I’ll make $20 on shipping by using UPS instead of Fedex. Yay!. I have to find/make a box and ship it….BOOOOOO!!!! I’ve sold multiple loving family dollhouses in the past. The right box has a way of magically showing up at just the right time.

I actually had some decent sales this past week.
First up is from Etsy, where I only have 30 items listed. I do it just to keep my fingers in another platform. I bought a number of lots in a MaxSold auction several weeks ago. I had one item I wanted to list right away. It’s an antique oyster plate. These regularly sell for $250 and up, but I found the one I bought to have three chips. The chips are small, and the plate is still usable. I paid a bit over $60 for the lot, and there are other nice ceramics I have yet to list. I listed it for $144 including shipping. The buyer is in Delaware, so the cost was only $8.50. I put “Note: Three Chips” in my title as well as covering it in my description. I hope that there was no confusion there.
It’s been mentioned in the forums before, but rugs are no longer a big seller. I had this wool rug in inventory for several years. It finally sold to someone in San Francisco. The cost to ship was $34, but better than I thought for that distance. It ends up that I estimated the diameter too high, and I made about $7 in shipping. I paid around $13 for it, and it sold for $106.
I only have one rug in inventory now, and I’ll only buy something it is really special. They take up too much room!

This accordion style sewing box was my neighbor’s, so a commission. I recall seeing Steve get good money for these, so I was surprised to see that the value had gone down. I listed it at the high end of the range, for what I felt it should go for. It is rather large, so I put it up for local pickup with a promise in the description that I would put in shipping when I found a big enough box. I did find one, but I knew the cost would be too high and didn’t update the listing. A buyer contacted me saying that they wanted it and did I find a box. The cost would have been over $80, so I looked through other ones I had and found a slightly smaller one that would cost $50 to ship. I sent the buyer an offer, but he paid my price (on sale for $95) saying that my customer service was so good. I packed that thing real carefully, but I’m a bit on nails. It hasn’t reached its destination yet. Its estimated delivery date is tomorrow (8/30), but I haven’t seen any notifications since it left NJ. UGH.

https://www.ebay.com/itm/235035251276 I think this might be the first handbag I sold. Buyer was a nice gal from NYC who also loves Orla Kiely prints. I paid a buck at a school rummage sale.
