I made it back to New Jersey this past Thursday after a week in Chicago, and I am starting to work my way through processing everything I bought while I was on vacation. I’ll have a full post later this week which will be extra fun to read if you are into classical music.
In the meantime, what did you find this week?

I just spent a good bit of today going through one last place at my neighbor’s house. It was the attic over garage. I had been up there once and saw a few things that would be sellable, but forgot about going back until recently. He didn’t think much was up there.
I went up and found some interesting things, but my husband gets the scavenger crown for today. There’s an old (genuine) metal milk jug, a vintage Gillette razor (I’ve sold them before and they go for good money), and so forth. But the real kicker was when he decided to make a second trip. He found boxes of sterling; a set of flatware, many salt & pepper shakers (as if she bought out an overstock sale at Bamberger’s), candle sticks, Gorham Christmas ornaments, and so on.
My neighbor has no idea where his wife got this stuff. Crazy to think that he would have sold the house and left it for the new owners. He is giving them a very good price, but the deal is that he can leave the attic filled with garbage that they will have to clean it out.
Anyway, I’m thinking of putting some sterling in his MaxSold auction to create some excitement, and the rest on eBay.

Nothing good this week. Back down to earth it seems after a CRAZY scavenging summer! That’s ok, I needed this lull in order to catch up and organize. Instead of filling my van with new scavenges, I loaded my van up with death pile items to list on breaks and lunch at work this week.

I did some minimal scavenging in Australia. Most of the thrift shops in Sydney are heavy on clothing, very little hard goods. They seem to be big on American brands and I don’t really like looking through clothes. While we were up in the Blue Mountains area, I did find some fun thrift shops and bought the above West German vintage art deco vase (not my listing).
Then, on returning home, my daughter’s high school football team was having a rummage sale. Having jet lag I got there late and ended up making a bundle deal for new sample Hoka clothing – 11 items for $30. Some are extra smalls and will move slowly I’m sure, but I thought I would try it out and help them out.

Auction house sold these four West German vases for me yesterday- I will get 44 GBP (50 USD) after costs.
I picked up a very worn copy of the “Carver and Gilder’s Guide And Picture Frame Maker’s Companion” at the junk market yesterday. It belonged to a W E Dench, who’d used a business card of Bertram Dench (Principal Comedy) as a bookmark. Bertram was appearing in films in the 1930s, so I guess this card, which lists his troupe of comedians, must date back to the start of his career. Maybe he’s related to Judi Dench (James Bond’s M).

@Antique Frog those are very cool. I feel like West German pottery is underrated for some reason. I found this site last time I was trying to find a maker and another one I can’t find again today. https://www.wikiwand.com/en/West_German_Art_Pottery

@christiner thanks! I think the two on the left made the sale- they were a lucky find in a thrift shop at 8 GBP (10 USD) the pair.
The most common ones I see are the Dumler and Breiden Terra range and the Scheurich flower pots. The Terra vases and bowls were imported by the British Dee Cee firm, who put their mark on the base.
Most times the base has an impressed form number which can be searched to give the manufacturer. The white vase with the chocolate stripes had that- can’t remember who the maker was, but it appears they did a range of decorations on that shape
