I figure I’ll try to post a scavenge of the week thread.
Post em if you got em (and this thread actually appears.)

Well it looks like it worked!
My scavenge of the week was one of these:
I was hoping to have mine live by now, but I haven’t had a chance to take photos yet. Mine is complete in the box, but the battery is dead.
There is a guy in my neighborhood that does 2-3 yardsales every season. I think he does some cleanouts here and there. Anyway, there were SLR camera boxes laying all over the place and I kept going through them to find they were empty. Just as I saw the camera bag another lady picked it up. I kept hovering around hoping she would put it back down. As I was hovering I saw the garmin box, took a quick peek, saw a bigger screened garmin and thought “looks like a trucker GPS – probably worth about $50”. I asked for a price expecting $30-50 as he was a bit too precious on some items – instead he said $5. I grabbed it up and kept hovering. Lady kept going through the dang bag FOREVER and never put it down so eventually I checked out and left.
Later that day before we left for Columbus I remembered the GPS and scanned the barcode out of curiosity. To say I was floored on what it really was is an understatement!

Thanks for posting the thread. Amazing find. I’m impressed how you find these random items for a good price at sales where a lot of things are overpriced. Just another reminder to leave no stone unturned when scavenging.

Garmin aviation gps, as used by the Russian air force! More accurate than the built-in equipment, according to POW Major Andrey Fedorchukov. Didn’t WW2 POWs just say their name, rank and number?

A few good finds at one yard sale this Saturday. This numbered print from 1965 by listed artist Barclay Sheaks was $3. I try to avoid framed prints with glass because I hate photographing them and I hate packing them for shipment but for $3 and with that iconic ‘60’s look I could not put it down. Initial research indicates it’ll be good for at least $75 so I’ll probably list it for $120 or so OBO. Coincidentally, most of the subject matter of his work was from in and around Hampton Roads, VA, where I lived for many years.
The same sale had this incomplete chess set of Japanese Kokeshi dolls in a nice blond oak dresser box for $1. They are unsigned, unfortunately, but they do have some age on them. I haven’t zeroed in on what to put them up for yet but I’m working on it. (The box will be good for $15-20 by itself so I’ll sell it separately.)

Those Kokeshi dolls have a lot of character. This listing is a decent analogue for your incomplete set. You’re going to get a really nice ROI on that dollar bill!

I tried and failed to post this thread a few times, so in the interest of not breaking the forums again, I’ll summarize my week of scavenging instead of copy-pasting the cursed post. It was a really nice week of scavenging with a lot of diverse finds. Highlights include a framed Trey Anastasio (Phish) tour poster $6.49, 1/2 off the sticker color), a nice pile of weird old yearbooks and magazines ($1 each), an old Reuge music box ($1) which I might hang onto, and 56 pieces of Mikasa Garden Harvest china ($15). I’ve never sold china before, never even thought about it and would love some tips ($priceless), but I can see the appeal already.
I’ve had a lot of productive scavenging trips lately. Am I finding better stuff because I have more money to spend, I’m a more educated scavenger or because there’s better stuff to find than in past trips? Probably all three! But it’s fun to get out there and come back with a bin full of stuff that I’m excited to get listed.
