I tried to make a what sold vid and the sound didn’t capture so I’ll have to redo it. I sold some really cool stuff in June but even though I’ve been listing, sales have been deadly slow this month. I finally have over 100 listings with more in back stock. I kind of oversourced this summer making it to where I have too much stuff with too little sales. I just keep thinking it’s going to be good for Q4.
Great sales and looks like a beautiful day for a walk with the pups.
Some good sales over the past 7 days for me:
1937-50 Zippo Lighter “To Dad”
Zippos are quite collectible, especially if you can date them. If they’re cheap enough, I’ll buy any Zippo and then try to date them once I get home. I paid $2 for this one because I knew this was an old logo. Was able to date it pre-1950. Sold for $50 best offer.
c1908 Bausch & Lomb Microscope
Paid $35 for this about 3 weeks ago. Got a couple of low ball offers from folks here in the US that I countered and never heard back on. Sold for full price, $200, last night to someone in Portugal who also paid $75 for Priority International Shipping. I used so much bubble wrap on this thing so it wouldn’t get damaged. Fingers crossed.
c1976 Canon AE-1 Camera Owner’s Manual
Bottom of a box lot fun! Bought a box lot because it had a lot of slides and camera accessories and was pleasantly surprised to find these at the bottom. Only paid $10 for the whole box and these sold for $20.
(24) 1986 Centurions Lot
Mentioned this on the Sunday post – bought a box of 80s toys at a sale for $100. Transformers, He-Man, Voltron, etc. These were in there too and sold within an hour of listing for full price ($70), on their way to Canada.
Steve – I’m surprised eBay sent a VERO on the IG-LO refrigerant. The company appears to be out of business.
Last week was very slow, but I did have a few good sales:
I bought many Judaica items in the first quarter or so of this year. For some reason, they started selling about 4-5 weeks ago. This is a nice enamel on copper mounted on a wood plate. Paid $1 in an online auction lot, sold for $30 best offer. http://www.ebay.com/itm/182549540930
This is a vintage bunny candy mold that I bought in an auction box lot. I paid so little for the box that I assigned a 25c price on it. Sold for $34. http://www.ebay.com/itm/182613690549
Earlier this year, I bought an online auction lot that included many vintage Free Mason books. I sold a few right away, but the rest are taking longer. This one is a 1973 lodge manual for NJ. I paid about 75c. The $18 price includes the less than $3 shipping. http://www.ebay.com/itm/182484310028
Good sales up there. Here are a few recent used items sales:
Sold overnight; paid $3.99 at Goodwill. There was another listed complete with the lid, but they didn’t have the pattern keyword thankfully. http://www.ebay.com/itm/232403628201
This is something from our house. http://www.ebay.com/itm/332192013040 I should sell more stuff from around the house, but it’s not as fun somehow.
Found a cache of vintage ’80s heavy metal easy to ship stuff. I only bought a handful of it but maybe I should go back because it’s moving. http://www.ebay.com/itm/232356476790
I like to buy small amateur paintings like this and find them often for around three to five bucks at thrift stores. The 70s color scheme doesn’t move as well but this aqua one did better though it did take quite a few months to sell. http://www.ebay.com/itm/332165850863
Thanks, Steve. I wish I’d kept my old portable typewriter just like that … gave it to the Good Will several years ago on a cleaning spree before I started selling on ebay. Oh well, I hope someone got it that uses it or sold it for some good bucks. I love that read one.
Nice long doggie walk, a good doggie is a tired doggie! Beautiful scenery! I love that, except for what looked like wheat growing, that would kill me because of the Celiac’s.
Not a bad week of sales. As I mentioned on Monday, my photo slide sales saved me a lot. Here we go…
The first saxophone part sales started coming in. A little back story… I bought this saxophone (Selmer Bundy II Alto Sax) at an auction for $45. I thought I got a good deal until I got to looking at it. I should have checked it out before I started bidding, because it was all bent and beat to hell. It sat on the death pile shelf for months until I got the idea to disassemble it and sell each individual part. I found an labeled parts guide online and went to work. I sold three pieces this week at $15 each, so I just about made my money back after fees. So keep that in mind if you ever run into the same situation. Selmer Bundy II Saxophone Part
Here’s the highest individual sale of my week. I acquired this Sony Minidisc Player at a thrift store for $5. I didn’t know how well it worked at the store but I took a chance on it. I had to buy a minidisc on ebay in order to test it (that cost $6, more than the player itself). It tested out perfectly! I sold within a couple weeks of listing it for $116. Sony Minidisc Player
Here’s a good thing to look out for while scavenging for items. These OXO brand plastic food storage containers with the sealing buttons are always super expensive brand new for some reason. Well I found that they hold their value pretty well on eBay. This set of four I got in a box lot. I paid .46 cents for these and sold them for $32. OXO Food Storage Containers
Finally, I’ll end on one of the eleven slides I sold on Friday. I was browsing Letgo and saw a guy selling a box of these Korean War slides with no price, but “negotiable.” I just threw out a $40 number to see what he would throw back at me, and I was surprised when he said “that sounds good.” After the easy transaction, I brought them home and counted 199 of these glass slides all taken in 1953 by an American soldier in South Korea. A majority were just scenery photos or snapshots of his friends (kind of uninteresting). Some, though, were pure gold! I think I spent about 6 hours or more so far on these… scanning them in, typing up what is written on each slide, taking photos of the whole slides, etc. But now that I’ve got all the hard parts done, I just have to list them. I’m going to list them in order at about 15 a week auction style with a starting bid of what I optimistically hope to get according to condition, clarity and general interestingness. The first week’s experiment was a huge success. I listed 12 and sold 11 for a total of $359! Hopefully, I’ll continue to have the same luck this week and the rest of my time selling these. Korean War Slide
Those glass slides are incredible. I’ve only ever come across glass slides once (at a reasonable price). Been finding a lot Kodachrome slides recently that sell very well. I’ve been doing lots though – entire families or themes by grouping.
Thanks Brian! Yeah, I knew as soon as the guy showed them to me that I had some treasure. The fact that they were all labeled with a title, location and a year was fantastic! I have another box of Kodachrome slides that I got last year that I might toss up as a lot like you did. It’s more family and vacation snapshots. There are a few I saw of old cars that I might pick out and list individually though.
Steve, about that Crosman pellet gun in your video… did you run into any issues with listing and selling that? I have an vintage Benjamin 137 air pistol that I tried to list about 6 months ago but eBay sent me all these warnings about not being allowed to list pellet guns or even parts of them. Kinda scared me off. But now I just looked and they’re selling all over the place. I’m wondering if they’re still as strict about it, and if it’s just an instance of “better to beg for forgiveness than to ask permission.”
It’s funny what is allowed in some countries on eBay – as a seller in Canada, I wouldn’t be able to sell any gun related items, or even the Freon. I wouldn’t be able to sell the organ keys if they were suspected of being ivory.
It gets so ridiculous that I once had a Megatron Transformer toy (it is a robot that turns into a gun) that was taken down by eBay because I had a picture of it transformed into the gun format – I had to relist the item with it just showing robot pictures not transformed.
