I’ve mentioned previously the tarot card sets I’ve been selling. I bought them in a large lot of books. I sold two of a different set this week – Mystic Tarot – for $20 each. I paid about $2.

I had one guy buy three menorahs from me while I was on vacation. The first two came from one lot at a live auction, and the last from an online auction. I like to buy the Jewish stuff because I usually don’t have much competition, and I have the knowledge I need to sell them. Each of the menorahs cost me about $1.50 – $2.00, and I took best offers of $50, $75, and $40.

Another strong start to the week. I expected a slow weekend into the holiday, but sold 15 items Sun-Tues. Here are some interesting ones:

(3) WWII US Army Sterling Silver Expert Sharpshooter Marksman Medals
Bought these about 3 weeks ago at an estate sale for I believe $6 total ($2 each). Just sold minutes ago for $60 best offer + $51 shipping to Hong Kong.

c1971 Walt Disney World Monorail White Border Contemporary Resort Plate
I find these quite often. Back when it opened, the Disneyland Monorail was so ahead of it’s time I bet every family needed a piece of Monorail history. This white boarder version – based on my research & what I’ve found in the past, there are at least 3 variations of borders – red, white, blue. Paid no more than $2, sold for $40 full price.

(3) Vintage 1950s Pre Embargo Cuba Silk Embroidered Handkerchiefs
I took a risk listing these as I know eBay doesn’t love Cuban items, even if pre-embargo that aren’t dated. If they pulled them down, I wouldn’t have been too upset as I only spent $2 on these. Sold within about 2 weeks for $25 best offer.

I’ve had these forever, probably close to 3 years, and I have never received an offer. Had these on sale for up to 50% off and no bites. Jumped at a $50 offer received. Paid $5 at an estate sale in late 2014.

Vintage Fisher Space Pen AG7-SH Original Astronaut Chrome & Gold Shuttle
Bought 4 of these back in February at an estate sale. Paid $10 each, and have sold 3 thus far for $50, $60, and $60 respectively. This is the original model that was taken into space starting in 1968 on Apollo 7, not some of the newer lower end models. I’m seriously considering keeping the last one for myself.

June 25 – July1

I didn’t have a lot of sales this week, but here are a few of the highlights…

I found these vintage NOS thumb tacks at the bottom of a box lot. I already made back the $60 I paid for the box lot, so everything else I sell will be pure profit, and there’s still quite a lot to sell still. These tacks were dated 1952 and were still unopened and pristine. I’m surprised they survived that long in that condition. They actually sold to a prop company in New York I believe.

I bought this hand-tinted mustached gentleman portrait at an auction on a whim for $20. It was quite a unique piece, and I know that beveled glass can be worth a little more than regular pan glass. Upon further inspection when I got home, I found that the frame was actually gold plated. Even though the back was kinda messed up, I set the price for $100 and after a couple months took a best offer of $85. I kind of wish I asked more for it, but other similar portraits weren’t getting nearly as much so I think I got a good sale.

Now for my big sale of the week. Things were looking pretty dismal until Friday when I heard this cha-ching! I got these two Intercom System Power Supplies by RTS Systems from a thrift store a little while ago for I believe $5 each. They didn’t come with power cords, but luckily they just took the standard cords from any computer tower, and I’ve accrued dozens of those throughout the years. The only means of testing I could do was plug them in and assure that they turned on and the little error light doesn’t come on, which they didn’t so I can only assume that they’re working fine. I took the chance since I paid so little for them and listed them comparable with others listed. It only took two days and they both sold to the same buyer for $500 each! Am I correct by saying that’s 10,000% profit? LOL! They were delivered on Monday and there hasn’t been any contact from the buyer, so I’m crossing my fingers that he’s happy.

Here’s a sale that was inspired by Steve’s videos. I got this Sony cassette deck from… somewhere, I don’t even remember. It may have even been given to me a long time ago. Anyways, it never worked for me, so I decided to disassemble it recently and list the parts that did function correctly. Here were a couple belt drive motors that were inside. A guy messaged me with a sap story about being low on funds and it was for a church and yadda yadda and wanted them both for $20. I had them listed for $15 each. No big deal, I would have probably took the offer without the story anyways. So I sent them out and he left me a glowing review even before they arrived, so I guess it was worth the discount.

Thanks, Steven. Well you can never go wrong with Carhartt and Levi jackets and jeans. I do have a mannequin, but they sell so well that on jeans, I just lay them on my old oak table and take a few pics. The jackets sometimes I just hang up and take pics. But yes, do have to double check inseam. I don’t get a lot of other clothing now unless something special, like vintage Hawaiian aloha shirts or muumuus. I do look for special rock concert t-shirts but have not scored much there. But if you pick carefully, they do sell pretty quickly. And who can resist the hunt for a BIG E Levis???

How do those doggies handle the hot weather, that’s a lot of fur on the big guy.

Love the videos and the painter’s palette BOLO idea! And the fireflies are the best fireworks ever. Do you realize how few places even have fireflies? They seem to be almost all in the eastern half of the US. Many people have never even seen one.
