I had my first known prop sale for a movie set in the 1960s called “Summertime” being filmed in NYC. Paid $4 at indy thrift. My daughter is a performer type, so she had to touch the item “someone famous” would touch. Fun. http://www.ebay.com/itm/332176984258
Sold this awesome mid-century kitchenware. Paid up a bit at $15 and the black handles were whitened from the dishwasher. I used fine steel wool and olive oil to refresh. http://www.ebay.com/itm/232311694107
Out of my comfort zone but thought I would try. Sold very quickly! Paid $2 at the weird storage clean out thrift store. Have another with LA Guns and some 80s metal decals to list. Maybe I’ll go back for more and try to cut a deal. http://www.ebay.com/itm/332234870686
I know! $83.64 shipping. Funny, I had this item priced higher and then thought to myself, “it’s just a tablecloth!” Maybe could have gotten more for it? Pricing is such a challenge sometimes.
Great stuff as always, Steven! That cat has the LIFE!
Some of my interesting sales in the past 7 days:
Convoy’s Christmas 1986 Pipe
Mentioned on the Sunday post that I picked up a pretty big lot of tobacco pipes at an estate sale – there were several people checking them out, so I stepped up and offered $300 for all 30. Researched and put 5 in a lot, 16 in a lot, and then the other 9 were a bit higher end so I listed individually. This one sold for $45 best offer.
Peterson Captain Pete XL80 Pipe
Another pipe form the lot sold for $75 best offer. 2 sales, $120 thus far in the first week. Should be a decent pipeline for the next few months.
1939 The Park Central Hotel New York World’s Fair Parchment signed by La Guardia
Super cool piece that was actually at the bottom of a box lot. The Park Central Hotel is pretty upscale and back in 1939 was probably on the level of like the Plaza or Waldorf Astoria. This was a parchment signed by the hotel manager at the time as well as the mayor of New York City, Fiorello H. La Guardia, welcoming guests to the 1939 World’s Fair. I considered sending it in to have the signatures authenticated, but spending the ~$75 to do that wouldn’t actually add too much value to the piece. I listed it at $100 and it sat for over a year with no action – got an offer for $35, countered at $75, accepted their counter of $60 because the week has been kind of slow.
NOS NEW Ronson Varaflame Atomic Gas Candles
These have sat forever, probably over 2 years. I had them listed for $100 and Ryanne I know you guys had a set listed for like $250 at one time. Absolutely no interest in them, so I had them on clearance and then took a $25 offer just to move them. Still a good deal for me, paid no more than $3 for them.
c1933 Russell Finest Club Quality Whist Playing Cards
Love playing cards. These were in amazing condition for their age and came with two Jokers and the rare rules card. Box in perfect condition too. Sold within 2 weeks for $40.
48 Star Annin Defiance 2’x3′ Flag
I also love non-50 star flags. Buy them up anytime I see them. This one is a rarer size, a small 2’x3′. Usually find 3’x5′ at the smallest. Paid maybe $5 for this and took a best offer of $85 on it. It was so cute folded into the traditional triangle – fit easily into a little 8×10 padded mailer. 🙂
Another fine video, Steve! I had a better week last week than the previous one. Here are my highlights…
I picked this cast iron lion still bank up in a box lot with a bunch of other cast iron things. I paid a bit much for the lot ($30), but it has some other good stuff in it. These lion still banks have a number of different versions. Some are worth more than others. After some researching, I found out that mine, while still quite old, wasn’t the original. I listed it as such and took a best offer of $26.50. Cast Iron Lion Still Bank
Back in 2008, Burger King ran a promo for their own line of cologne. It was called Burger King Flame. You may remember it. Well I bought four of them for I think $14 each. They sat in a drawer all this time forgotten. I found them about a month ago. Two have somehow dried up completely. One was half full and the other was completely full. Funny how that happens. Well I listed them on a whim (none others were even listed or sold, at least in the last 90 days) and set the price somewhat high. Took about a month but they both sold on the same day. There must have been a blog post about it or something. The half full one sold for $25 and the full one sold for best offer of $33. I probably could have gotten more, but oh well. Last summer, I was at a great auction with about 80% box lots. I was buying all kinds of stuff for dirt cheap. This wood box came with an armload of other unrelated things. I honestly don’t know what I paid for it, but probably less than a couple bucks. Brought it home and it sat for a while because I couldn’t figure out what it was. Finally, I posted pictures of it to Reddit and found out it was a speaker box for an old home projector. I listed it as such and it sold after a couple months to someone in South Korea for $50. Here’s my big sale of the week. I picked these brand new neoprene industrial work gloves up at an warehouse liquidation auction. If I knew then what I know now, I would have focused on buying more of these gloves and less tools that were going for too high, but oh well. I payed about $10 for all 3 packs of 12. Someone bought all 3 for $105. Neoprene Rubber Work Gloves
The scent of subduction with a hint of flame broiled meat. 🙂 It actually doesn’t smell too bad. No meat smell like it was advertised. I’m not a cologne guy so I don’t have the words to describe it.
Wow, you got lucky with that coffee pot sale. I listed the exact same one and eBay pulled it down last week. I thought it was just the electric ones that had the recall but I guess not.
I was at an auction last week and saw a brass fireplace screen that looked almost identical to the one in Steve’s video. I didn’t know what it was – I had to ask one of the other attendees. I didn’t bid on it, but I’m sure it was sold for more than $3.
I sold a set of four enamel on copper art pieces with Jewish themes. I paid about $1 and sold for $59. I’m pretty sure I had best offer on it, but the buyer paid full price. http://www.ebay.com/itm/182545535109
I visited my parents in April, and a number of their friends gave them stuff to give to me. Nice how that works! These pretty wax drip catchers purchased from Anthopologie were in unused condition. I sold them for $28. http://www.ebay.com/itm/182546604114
I originally priced this McKinley-Roosevelt paperweight from 1900 at $99, but it sat for quite a long time. It’s very faded. I had reduced it to $49 and then accepted a $25 offer. I paid about $0.30 for it in an auction lot, so what the hey. http://www.ebay.com/itm/182219412791
