Since I had a good number of sales for my small store last week, I have a few I can share!
Vintage Sony Walkman Cassette Recorder. Answered a few questions from the final buyer about the headphones and age of the walkman and came to feel this was a 1987 model. Sony Walkman
Pair of 1970’s Electra Walkie Talkies. One antenna was broken so they couldn’t talk, but did both power on so they may be fixed. Sold one of the vintage 9V batteries from these months ago after getting these at an auction. Walkie Talkies
Vintage APSCO electric pencil sharpener. Found this at the University Surplus shop over the summer for $2 or $3. Took a while to sell, but I’ll pick up another one any time. Pencil Sharpener
Last night I sold a Renato 10 slot watch display case I got at an auction. Took a best offer of $110 which was $15 less than asking price. I didn’t have Best Offer on the listing, but received an email with the request. Sent the offer back in a message and they paid quickly. Display Case
Another auction find: #3 pencils with Ford Motor Co. on them. Got a box of about 100 pencils and selling the #3 pencils in sets of 10 for $10. I have one set of a #1, #2, #2 2/4, #3, and #4 up as well. This was the first set of 10 to sell. Sold yesterday. Pencils
Killer sales! The Walkman is so 80s. Those pencils are awesome too – where’d you get them and were they super cheap (I’ve done well on vintage pencils too)?
PS – saw you’re from Central PA… I grew up in Gettysburg and went to Penn State 🙂
Awesome! I work at PSU and picked up my second Bachelor’s degree from them a few years ago! We live just outside of State College on the Huntingdon County side.
I got the pencils at an auction along with some other items as a box lot for $8.25 a few months ago. I think I have at least 80 (well, now 70) #3 plus a good number of the other ones. I thought they were cool and would be great for a pencil collector or Ford collector. I would have passed them by if it weren’t for talking about pencil and eraser collectors on the podcast!
Dillard’s is one of my prime sources! In fact, the pencils, Walkman, watch case, and walkie talkies all came from their auctions! At this point I think about 30-40% of my inventory comes from them. I’ve gotten a few lots at $0.01 that I’ve turned into $30-60. I am there so often that the employees at the previews and pick-ups all know my name.
Silverplate wine opener from Italy http://www.ebay.com/itm/191757101917
I’ve had this for about 2 years and actually sold it twice over that time and the buyers never paid. Third time listing, had it one sale and sold for $40. I think I paid like $10 at an estate sale because it was silverplate.
1889 Explanation of the Constitution http://www.ebay.com/itm/201262140235
and
1905 History of the Republican Party http://www.ebay.com/itm/201621425199
I’ve had both of these books for some time now. Without getting into politics, it was interesting they both sold on the same day, perhaps because of the election results. The Constitution book sold for $25 (paid $1) and the Republican History sold for $37.50 (paid $5) – both on clearance sale. I certainly wanted/expected way more for both but needed to clear out super old inventory.
1957 Masonic Bible http://www.ebay.com/itm/201651489444
I’ve had Masonic bibles, books, items in the past and some sell well and some don’t this one sold for a $85 best offer and relatively quickly (I think I listed in October), perhaps because it had hand inscriptions, a name, and dated. Paid $10 at an estate sale.
Unicorn business card holder http://www.ebay.com/itm/191980033590
Quirky item at the bottom of a box lot. Probably not vintage. Probably for a gag office gift. Sold for $20.
Vintage Arpege Lanvin http://www.ebay.com/itm/192005649624
Vintage perfumes – another thing R&J got me into that I probably would have passed up in the past. Paid $5 about a month ago, sold for $80.
I will post my sold vid as soon as I remake it. I made part 1 and put it under the wrong YT account. Then I tried to remake it at work on the weekend when it’s usually slower and the phone kept ringing, stuff kept happening, etc. So, I’ll try to remake it at some point in the next couple days and post it. Just for a preview, I sold a few fun things last month: Beastie Boys Grand Royal Magazine I found this magazine in the free bin at someone’s garage sale. Just this one issue went for $30. It was a project of the Beastie Boys and it only made it to 6 issues before going completely online. I really enjoyed reading it because it had some very original and unusual articles. Gary Numan Concert DVD This was a DVD that my dad gave me that I couldn’t find a value for. I guessed at $30 because it seemed rare. It in fact is pretty rare and can only be seen in parts on YT and bootleg. It wasn’t even in great condition and still got $30. Lot of 3 Star Wars storybooks This set of Star Wars books was a complete fail. Each one was $2, so I spent $6 and only got $15. Probably because the new movie is coming out. These were original to the first movies so I thought they’d be worth a little more.
Your dogs are so pretty and play so well together. We used to have a golden retrieve and I miss him BUT they’re so much work. We like to travel and it’s hard having a dog.
I love this picture! Joyful anticipation. We have a copper-colored short-hair collie mix (at least that’s what they told us at the shelter). We adopted her when she was a year old and she’s coming up on 13 in January. Except for the coloring, her face looks just like your collies.
“An Introduction to TrueGether
When it comes to buying and selling online, a lot of people are always interested in finding credible alternatives to eBay. For buyers, they want (of course!) to find the best price as well as a reliable and secure transaction. For sellers–especially those who rely on income from their online sales–it can be helpful to diversify and reach out to customer through multiple platforms rather than putting all their eggs in one basket.
Enter TrueGether, a startup company looking to change the landscape of online transactions by offering a system that is easy to use, secure, and free. That’s right: TrueGether charges no fees, which means no listing fees and no transaction fees.
When I asked how TrueGether can afford its fee-free system, they explained that they are developing a release which will allow managing multiple marketplaces from TrueGether. This will be a subscription based feature, and they hope it will generate sufficient revenue for the site. Personally, I can see how this would be a desirable feature for sellers who wish to list items on multiple marketplaces.
TrueGether also distinguishes itself by leveraging social media to build trust in between buyers and sellers, who log in with their Facebook or LinkedIn accounts. In addition, TrueGether adds products to Google shopping for free: when sellers add products to TrueGether, the system automatically adds the same products to Google Shopping.”
Love the doggies–missed the kitty! You cannsure tell it’s cold when the snow crunches like that. St. louis is getting down to 2 degrees by Sunday night. Speaking of freezing, so are my sales this week. I don’t get it.

Wow, great sale on those love letters. I have a pile of old letters I haven’t dealt with because it seemed a bit daunting to list them. I know you’re an advocate of minimal listing info, but I’m surprised that someone bought them without even knowing how many letters are in the lot. Congratulations!
