Great stuff Steve! Thanks for doing these. Love seeing your animals. Now, one bitter comment, I can not for the life of me, get more than $50 for Corcoran boots–how long did you have yours? Maybe I am too impatient…
I would fall over if I found anything as cool as that Harley drinks set for free–I might have tried to see if I could find the matching glasses.
Corcoran boots are one of the best known brands, military boots ingeneral have been taking a while to sell lately, these were cap toe jump boots which are very desirable and they still took 3-4 months to sell.
Love the videos, Steve. And the pets! I was listing hats today including a Kangol cabbie hat for summer. Love those church sales. I also have sold several old Presidential invites, menus and such to the post-inagural celebrations, etc. bought a bunch of them from an estate sale. Seems like they were mostly Nixon. Made some nice money from them.
@ Steve Schultz and Linda Shields:
Thanks for sharing your paper ephemera sales. Just opened my 3rd store this week and it will be dedicated to post cards, paper ephemera and tiny objects. Want one store that we can take with us on our travels and ship as we go. Love seeing that others are having great sales with vintage paper goods.
Glad to hear that you made money from political memorabilia Linda–I just bought a small collection myself, have listed a few things and sold one already Have some cool Eisenhower items to list today.
@newvintageny $250 for someone else’s old wedding album huh? Who woulda thought?! Question for you after having visited your ebay staore…for your graded trading cards, do you have a service you would recommend for getting my cards graded? also, what do you use these days for pricing of trading cards? back in the day I used to use my trusty Beckett Pricing Guide, but i’ve been out of the game for some time now. Thanks, Matt
PSA and BGS are the two companies you want to go with. You may want to find a card shop or card show in your area to reduce the cost of sending the cards in. They hit you with shipping and insurance which adds up. If you submit with a group of people it will be cheaper. For pricing I use ebay sold and comc.com they are more reliable and realistic than the beckett guide. Beckett basically gets all it’s pricing from ebay.
For grading the cards put the card under a very bright lite like a desk lamp and it will show a lot of flaws. For newer cards if you see any visible flaws you probably want to avoid submitting it. Hope that helps!
I usually price things on the high end. I thought it looked cool and it is the only one in the world so if the right person came along and saw a very high price on it they would think it was a high end piece.
The person that bought it lives in London so I wonder why they purchased it.
Love your videos thank you so much for taking time to share them with us. You inspire me!
Love the HD curb find. That’s always a huge thrill when you get a good price for a free find.
Some of my interesting sales over the past 2 weeks (since I didn’t get a chance to post last week):
1980s Cliff Engle NY Jets sweater: http://www.ebay.com/itm/201681299083
Found this in a box in the basement of a hoarder sale. Thought it was simple so retro looking I was going to buy it regardless of brand and then I saw Cliff Engle Made in USA on the tag. Cliff Engle made all of the sideline sweaters in the 80s and they are quite popular (and expensive) now. This one was a bit dirty likely from being in that box for 25+ years and I sold as is without cleaning. Took a best offer of $80 (paid $1) because I chose not to get it cleaned. More pristine sweaters can command up to $200 (http://ebay.to/2gpvGP1).
Starrett Caliper: http://www.ebay.com/itm/191867257194
I usually avoid tools cause their not really my area of expertise but a couple years ago I bought a caliper & micrometer just cause it looked cool & intricate. Sure enough, when researched I found that they go for big money because they are fine precision tools. I’ve had several over the years, this one I bought at a sale for $15 and sold for $195.
1943 Naval Tachometer: http://www.ebay.com/itm/191846280949
Bought this at a sale for $10 because it was labeled as being from the Navy during WWII. It has the original box & paperwork so I took a chance on it. Had it listed for $100 for a few months and there wasn’t much action, so I took an offer of $60 for it.
1982 Iron Maiden record: http://www.ebay.com/itm/201661998643
Have I ever mentioned that I love selling record? HA! Sold relatively quickly for $35. Metal always sell well because they had more limited runs than pop records, plus they were usually played HARD.
Vintage Annin Italy Flag: http://www.ebay.com/itm/201723464682
Have I ever mentioned that I love selling flags? HA again! I find American flags all day long, but this was the first time I had seen a vintage, foreign, high quality flag. Bought it for $3 and sold for $50.
1933 AG Ryley safety razor: http://www.ebay.com/itm/192026634005
Have I ever mentioned that I love selling safety razors? HA for a third time! Foudn this in a razor box lot I bought. I’m very familiar with Gillette and many of the other popular brands, but this is one of those oddball makers. Very little found about them, but they were in Cleveland/NE Ohio and didn’t last long. Put this up for $60 and immediately got several lowball offers on the day I listed, held out and sold for full price within a week.
1970s Colibri enamel lighter: http://www.ebay.com/itm/191979996117
Bought this for $1 at the flea market simply because of the maker – Colibri is a high end maker still around today and research showed this pattern was from the 70s. Still sparked so with a little TLC & fuel should work again. Sold for $40 to someone in South Korea that paid another $45 on top of that for Priority shipping.
1937 King George & Queen Elizabeth Coronation dish: http://www.ebay.com/itm/201423355278
Picked this up on the last day of a estate sale for $1 or less just because I thought it was awesome being so old & porcelain. With research, came to find out it wasn’t crazy rare, but still sold for $25.
Parkinson’s Fine Duck Quills tin: http://www.ebay.com/itm/192006118407
I’ve been starting to get interested in old advertising tins. This one was cool to me because it was at one time full of duck quills used for writing (before pens were mass produced). The sale I bought it from seemed to be a collector base don the volume of tins and this one stood out (and was cheap for $1). Sold for $20.
Thanks! It was a shock when I found it. Totally didn’t belong where I found it in a box of junk deep in the basement. Gives me hope to continue to dig!
Okay, going to post some of our dismal sales from the week. Do any other sellers find that 4th quarter is one of their lowest of the year in sales instead of the highest? Consistently over the past few years, we have the best sales 2nd and 3rd quarter, with 1st quarter coming in next.
This is the 2nd conch horn we’ve sold this year. A friend clued me in to how well shells can sell on ebay. Before that, I would send them back to the thrift store when I found them in auction boxes. Had never heard of a conch horn until I researched the first one. This one sold for 26.60 and I believe I found it at a thrift store for a couple of bucks. http://www.ebay.com/itm/Vintage-Seashell-Horn-Conch-Sea-Shell-Trumpet-Island-Musical-Instrument-6-5-/262574100974?rd=1
I had some slower sales for the previous 2-3 weeks, so I tried something… I started doing “1 day” sales because the last day you have something on sale a timer shows up on that page. I’ll do a group of things, usually in similar categories, for one day so the timer on the page says “ending in xxxx”.
This week I’ve sold at least one thing per day from the things on sale. Coincidence or actually a result of the sale? Who knows?
@ Linda … I’m pretty sure I probably donated one or two back before I figured it out…looks like a shell that someone ruined at first glance.
@ blessed and happy! WOW…what an amazing sale on the calculator!!! Those are the kind of sales that keep the ebay adrenaline pumping:)
@ Sharyn … so happy your October sales were the best for you! I love when my fellow sellers have great months…makes me realize we all get our turn and there is plenty of buyers out there.
My sales have been slow. I think that October was the best 4th quarter month so far. I kept hearing about how great 4th quarter sales are, but, so far, I’ve been disappointed. Perhaps the holiday rush hasn’t started, maybe people buy new merchandise for gifts, or no-one likes the stuff I’ve listed. Could be any of the above.
I only starting selling in the Spring of this year, so I don’t have any previous year metrics to compare.
My brother-in-law just gave me about a dozen Harmony Kingdom collectable boxes to sell. They are the neatest things, and I’m hoping that this is something people will buy as gifts. The sold prices are from $20 to $90.
I do pretty much all collectibles and yes, the 4th quarter for me has never been a huge money maker, it is after Christmas, when people are treating themselves, that I typically have better weeks.
We have been having great sales for the past couple of months. This past Monday sold a vintage compucorp scientific calculator for $719!!Paid $2.00 at a church yard sale!It had these tubes for the numbers so cool.
Great video as usual, Steve. The Harley cocktail set is an AWESOME free score. I rarely find stuff that cool for free. Love the Kangol hat too. I wear cabbie/newsboy type hats from time to time, so I’m not surprised you did well on it. Gotta love church sales!
ebay has been pretty slow for me as well–every brick and mortar I have been in lately is packed, looks like people are buying new stuff for the Holidays.
I’ve been very happy ever since Thanksgiving, like someone turned the spigot on after a very long dry spell. I’ve been having constant sales, so maybe that helps. Only listing 30-40 items per week.
